Top 25 RC Driver Ranking System

Lets be patient here
This is a great idea - yes it will have some teething pains but for this hobby to make it in the public eye - if that is what we want it to do eventually? It needs to have undisputed champions based on a point system.
Without a clear definition of the "best" in particular disciplines this hobby/sport will remain fringe at best-not that I have a problem with that - it can be argued that once something goes mainstream its "core" is ruined...but that is an argument for a different time...
Imagine watching football, the Seahawks win the superbowl, but some corporate league team claims they are the best - who is to deny it - of yeah they were not on the big stage to prove it! I agree races with the best talent present deserve to have higher points assigned - like a major in golf or tennis - the only way to establish these points structures is to do what the originator of the website is indeed doing.
World events: Most points
National Events: Second Tier
Specialty events: DNC - Reedy Race - Silverstate etc - third tier
Regional events: lowest tier
Local races? Who cares - run what you brung - keep it fun!
Well done - keep pressing on - take no note of the petty critiques...

RavensNightFury - Nice catch. I had him as serpent on my original list and i missed that while doing this one. Will fix.
You forgot all the points and events in Australia from racers here like Kylie mac relied and all that racers it's not just us or that you forgot the other parts too. As far as the Australian races, if they do not meet the competition level requirement then they don't get included. I don't choose what events get counts the quality racers in attendance do.
turndownwhip - Thank you. you guessed it, this ranking system is modeled after the world golf rankings. Golf is surprising similar to RC in more ways than you would think. Its one of the few sports where the best players in the world are all playing at different events in the same weekend, and only a few events a year do ALL the big time golfers show up on the same course.
hookem34- Not very clear on how the actual points are amassed. Can you provide specific detail? Points are awarded to a driver for their finishing position at qualifying events. The amount of point is dependent on the strength of the field. I will use ROAR nationals for example. 1st place is worth 150 pts, 2nd is 145, 3rd 140 and so on. Then a drivers points for all the events he attended over a sliding 2 year period are added up and divided by the number of events that driver attended. What you end up with is a drivers average finishing points per event (which is the number you see on the list.)
In case any one is confused on what a sliding or rolling 2 year period is, its a 24 month period that ends with the Event you're currently in. For example, currently used is ROAR National 2012 and 2013. when ROAR Nationals 2014 comes, the list will use 2014 and 2013, and 2012 result will drop out of the equation.

In a way it's kind of like a series that lasts two years and points are added together. Exception being that the points are averaged? Cool idea. I always thought it was weird an r/c driver can be considered World Champion for winning the A-main on one track over just a week. All other full size racing is many different tracks over the season. I guess some series replicate this like JBRL in Southern California, but it's not ALL the pros coming out to race. The more I think about it, the more I like your idea.
Any way to factor in deducting points from a racer for hacking or other acts of driving deemed "unfair". For instance, F1 penalizes drivers for blocking, causing a collision, jump start etc. Sometimes r/c race outcomes seem unfair because a racer will wreck someone out and the "race director" doesn't say anything/ force a stop and go/ or whatever. I don't think a person's pitman yelling at the other guy is the answer.
Not sure I have this right, but as far as averaging goes... total points divided by number of races? If Battle won the World Championship in 2012 and therefore got max points and then never raced again, would he not retain the title of Top Driver because it would always just be max points divided by one race?

A driver has to attended a minimum of 3 qualified events to be on the list.
The races used on the current list are as follows. Nitro challenge 13 and 14, Neo 12 and 13, euro A 12 and 13, ROAR nationals 12 and 13 and Worlds 2012. But this is a constantly evolving list.

So no Asian (FEMCA) , or South American (FAMAR) block races
Just ROAR and EFRA
So it's not really the best 25 in the world.
Just the best that race in ROAR and EF's races
I'm not downing your effort. I think its a great idea. But at the moment it's a little limited.

Please read my comment regarding how events are determined "qualified event" it not that I am not including them in my data, but none of the races in those areas qualified. Once again I do not choose which events are used, the races themselves determine that. Kyle is in my points and I do not have the data here at the moment, but one of two things happened He either isn't in the top25 points wise, or doesn't have enough events to make the list.
This list is designed to determine the best drivers in the world and to become the best you have to race against the best.

I think you are right Monty, but this list takes results from any race the qualifies no matter what country it's held in.

The only way to get a true indication is if all the top drivers from all over the world are consistantly racing in same events, otherwise driver that has a calander that suits the lists criteria will always have a advantage and rank higher. Therefore the list will not show a true indication on someones ranking, yes it will in the region it favors.
Great idea but i noticed you include the US nationals, what about other nationals in other countries, some of the big races in asia, C-Netic, FEMCA, plenty of good drivers there that could match it with the best in the US, maybe need to broaden your races not just US and europe, just thought.

You can't produce a list like this and not expect to open a can of worms. Its exactly the purpose of the list, to create a discussion
Kyle may be a great driver but to say he's in the top 25 is hard to prove when it's rare that he races in a ROAR or EFRA event that qualifies him for this list
To not see Hara in the top 10 is a bit of a shock. You could ask most people who they think would win in a head to head with those ahead of him and more than often people would say Hara
The same goes for Josh Wheeler being in the top 10. Hes a great driver, but better than Phend, Hara and Jerome Airlines, questionable. But easily in the top 25
It just shows the attendance bias of the list.
I think the people in the list would be right, but the ranking can be a little off

I think its pretty freakin cool and even if it was 1000% accurate and indesputable you'll still get fans saying its absurd that Paul Coleman or Jay Halsey are not on the list. I think its great that you did all this work to bring a sense of order and enjoyment to RC car racing. I don't take anything too seriously so ill just enjoy watching the drivers go up and down the rankings like my favorite college teams.
