Best way to lock a centre diff?
#17
Cheers, will take a look at that Losi item, should be able to get it to fit the Mugen case.
Ideally yes, using a straight gear would be the way to go, but same thing, i haven't been able to find anything that even looks like a straight gear out there.
Ideally it would have a 46t or 44t gear on the shaft.
If anyone knows of where to get these straight gears from it would be a much better option.
Cheers.

No need to get angey, i was expressing my honest opinions. I think people would prefer that over my saying what i dont think is true

thats what your looking for.
The spur gear adapter goes onto the shaft to the flat spot. Use a 5mmx5mm grub screw to lock it down and use any 1/8th spur you like.

I consider "locked" as in meaning there is no counter rotation to the two diff outputs, even using sillyputty, there is still a chance for counter rotation. I think of that as very very limited slip, but not locked.

I used Ofna's diff lock, silly putty and modeling clay all 3 work perfectly for what someone is trying to do, I prefer a spool or filing the diff with 2 part epoxy, i also have a spool with 1 way bearing in it, and a RF hub with a oneway, I think locked diff's are used more in oval racing than offroad

yeah I seen a jar of that diff lock putty at the LHS the other day and it reminded me I wasn't smoking crack thinking of this thread.
the silly putty is also what they were using.
silly putty, clay, diff locking putty and cleaning clay. all ad weight though. more weight to a spinning assembly is robbing power.
I'd go with the proper replacement if it's available. thankfully serpent made one for my car. removed a lot of spinning mass which helped the car accelerate much faster.
