This is really all stuff that needs to be brought up with the RD and at Driver's Meetings. If you're having problems with people and/or finding pit guys, speak up.

It also seems odd that people simply won't race their nitros because they can't find someone to pit. Seriously, if there aren't enough people to pit, run a 6 or 7 minute race (or double a-mains). I would rather race 7 minutes than not race at all.

I agree completely. Don't beat on your volunteer pit guy. If a little girl can't pit for you, then maybe there is something wrong with your race strategy.

Pit guys are for holding your car at the start of the main, and for refueling during the main, that's it.

They are not obligated to run and grab your car and restart it during the mains. Nor should they need to tune it. It really bugs me to see people fight with some POS nitro engine that really has no chance of ever being reliable.

You also don't need them to qualify. The computer tells you when the start is. Drop your car 2 minutes before the start. Every nitro race I've been to "hot-starts" the Q's. No pit guy needed.

I'm glad we don't have this situation at our track. If a engine is poorly tuned there is always someone willing to help that person out. If someone flames we make efforts to get the car back in. Hammering on the throttle while on your back I'm not a fan of cause it could be dangerous for the marshal, but I will blip the throttle until he is within range.

Are you sure some of you guys with these complaints are interested in keeping a nitro program alive?

This is one of my biggest issues since I first ran nitro in 2006! I hate having to go ask somebody,Hey can you pit for me? I just hate to bug people like that! Depending on some guy who isn't really into pitting for you kind of makes winning just a little further away. When I pit for someone I am alert, follow where they are on the track and will run to thier flamed out car just to get them started back up a lap behind no matter who they are I take it very serious even if they are last place. Pitting for me is way more strenuous than my own racing itself that is how much I get into it. Same goes for my corner marshal duties Seems that not everyone feels the same way when it comes to helping someone else winJust my .02

I really don't care to have to pit for somebody. The fumes amd smoke get in your eyes nose. i bet every single grown man out there has cried at some point due the exaust fumes going directly into his eyes. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out that nitro isn't good for your health. I'd bet it's just as bad if not worse than cigarette smoke. Heck, nitro could be the new asbestos and we don't even know it yet.

I can teach you how not to aim the pipe at your face if you want. Maybe a youtube vid!

I love the guys who are having trouble lining up on their starter box. Eye level with the pipe to see the flywheel.

Braaaaap. Face full of castor oil.

Poor guy!

I was talking about electric guys changing their OWN batteries. A couple people said, "just refill yourself (nitro guys)", so my comment back was aimed as, "that's fine, I'll GLADLY refill myself. Then the electric guys have to walk their asses off the drivers stand and change their own batteries, because we're running real-length mains!" That's right... the length that was happening before these e-things showed up. Two can play at that game.

This happened to me a couple times.... someone coming around to pass me, okay fine, I'll move. But they wreck in a corner, I get by them. I'm not happy letting them by again. Fine. They get by again only to wreck in another corner, I get by for a third time. Probably happened five times!

I'm done letting these "fast" guys by that wreck every lap and need a marshal. After I let you by twice, I'm not letting you by a third time.

I completely agree with this, except for the fact the "good guys" who consistently show-up to marshal are going to have to bust their ass, and inevitability they will be [wrongly] blamed by the drivers for slow spots.

I go into full "Killdeer" mode when racers start useing marshals as crutches.

I fake an injury and make a high pitched chirping noise like a killdeer bird. Then mashal excruciatingly slowly while limping.

I get tired of flipping the same car over and over, unless it's a newb.

If someone roosts me after I flip them, I fake having dirt in my eyes every time they wreck so I can't see them upside down. Not sure why racers can't grasp the whole pull away smoothly bit so you don't throw dirt right into the marshals face.

Eventually it's going to be like soccer. Everytime someone taps a pipe I'll be rolling on the ground holding my knee.

When there are 10 nitros on a starting gate all doing full throttle purges before the start tone, i think it's safe to say that you're gonna get nitro crap in your eyes and lungs. I don't know what kind of dumb#%# puts their face right next to the pipe when the car is running.

ROFLOL!You teach 'em Zero!
Last year did some slot car racing and the marshals are another level, very proficient, are really focused.Couple of things I learned are:to not pull the trigger while being marshaled,it's not the marshal fault you crashed and don't demand lightning quick reflexes from them.We are here to have fun, help someone!

Outdoor there's dispersion of nitro fumes so the quantity you get is very low,you really had to stick your nose into a cloud of nitro fumes to be affected.

If you can't tune an OS 21XZB with a P3 & 2090, then there is something seriously wrong with you. Screw all the odd ball "engine of the week companies". Start with something easy. Any newb can get the XZB to 10+min. Avoid the hard to tune, hard to break in engines until your a pro.

No reason at all to need a pit guy for quals. Drop your car, climb the stand, if your car isn't still happy idling away on the ground by the time you get up the stand. Then you got some problems that needs fixed/tuned.

No need to fuel up after warm up laps, just take it easy on the straights during the warm up laps to conserve fuel.
couldn't have said this better myself.

club racing for nitro here in southern MI has dropped in the last couple of years, seems as though most nitro racers want to race for a cheap trophy and a title no one gives a shit about. i mean 3 qualifiers and a 20 minute A main are worth it for me to come out. but 1 thing i have noticed is the lack of new nitro racers. there are a ton of new people in the hobby here, but they are all racing 4x4 short course, electric of course...

Sad, But true statement! During the summer club racing is nonexistant in michigan. Around here, most people would rather spend a boatload of cash traveling hundreds of miles out of their ways 1-2 times a month for bowling trophies instead of attending local weekly/bi-weekly club races. I don't understand the logic, but it is what it is. I honestly believe that is why you don't see any new faces racing nitro.

I'm starting to drift that way myself.

The 3 day events with camping are too much fun. Way better than club racing. But going to a few big events will mean that I'll have to do less club racing to make up for lost "family time" etc. etc. I love the camping, the racer comraderie and seeing new tracks. Noone wants to travel to these events alon, so the racer comraderie (sp?) is really alot of fun. Banding together your "clique" for a road trip.

It's not just the trophy. But big events bring out the fast racers, so i know I'm going to get plenty of racers to compete against. And apparently the charity races are getting huge. Unfortunately the club level dwindles, because when you hit all these traveling events, you need time away from RC to recharge. And regular events start to seem "weak".

I usually save my nitrobuggy just for big events now and run E the rest of the time.

So you don't think it could be an issue of wanting to race with helpful people, and run proper 45 minute finals instead of E-babies limiting your fun with their constant criticism and limiting your finals to 20 minutes?

No, the venomous lazy E guys really suck the life out of racing.

But since 1/10th scale tracks are basicly split from 1/8th,1/5th, SCT tracks.... that problem is getting better. It's the 1/10th scale guys allways trying to mess up nitro fun in my experience.

I think they're jealous.
