Find your local race track (or wherever you plan to race) and see what's popular there. There is no point to buy something if you can't race it.

In order (outdoors):

Electric 1/8th buggy (growing, many 4x4er's moving up)
4x4 SCT
2wd SCT
Nitrobuggy (mostly only around at big events)
Truggy (hit or miss)
1/10th scale (dieing)
4x4 buggy (endangered species)

5ive action is picking up, but that's a traveling circus.

I see your from Ohio, what area are you in? Just curious because 1/10 scale is still just as big as 1/8e buggy in Columbus and down south.

Around here nitro buggy is the most popular followed by eBuggy or 2wd SCT. 1/10 buggy is making a comeback and has grown this past season.

1/10 scale electric rules all around here. With our indoor Offroad race facility( HobbyTown HobbyPlex) the plex generates over 100 entries EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT! Now, with our winter nitro series I expect to see the nitro #s increase but will still fall short of the 1/10 showing. It all depends on your area... Most just don't have the knowledge and/or patients to run and maintain nitro vehicles and the stress level is a little higher not to mention cost. So most newBs go the 1/10 route.

in NC/SC it seems that 4x4 Sc and 17.5 Sc are the most popular followed by 1/8. it just depends which track you go to if nitro 1/8 or e 1/8 is more popular.

Where I'm at everyone runs nitro buggy.
Nobody runs electric.

Electric is for people who enjoy premature..... battery replacement.
