Need Help with a Selection
 

I have played with electric and have received the Nitro bug but don't want to be ripped off...
What is the preferred Truggy to get and what is the main differences between buggy and truggy, and which would be easier to run.
Which is cheaper and what kind of tuning will I need to do?

truggy; longer chassi,longer a arms ,bigger wheel more easy to drive hard.
Wery expensive tire/wheels.

Truggy is more expensive. Buggy is more popular. Niether is easy.

I only like truggies for ther comical silly mars rover having a seizure style. I can't take them seriously. I know a .21 is the best mill for racing truggies, but I'd still have to put an OS28xzb in one.

Buggy just plain seems like better racing to me.

The Mugen truggy is by far the best truggy out there IMO.
The Xray Xb9 and Mugen are the best buggies IMO.

I own Team Associated vehicles so what I say here is completely non biased.

Just starting into Nitro Buggy\Truggy? There's one good starting option out there and that's the Losi 8ight RTR packages. Can't be beat honestly since you get a good radio, starter box, and a pretty good quality kit that is pretty durable and can compete at club level quite well.

Can't really be beat price point wise if you need everything to get started.

I prefer Truggy since they can be raced hard and they bash a bit better than a Buggy. Buggy racing is more popular where I live though.

Truggy stinks, it's for neckbeards and confederate flag people. Buy a buggy! :D

The two most durable cars are X-ray XB9 and Mugen MBX-6.
I myself have the mugen, but if I should buy today I would buy the X-ray because it is a newer design and more likely to be on the market for a few years. (Think: parts availability)

The only thing thats expensive on a truggy is the tires in the short run but they will last much longer than buggy tires because theres more surface and you can run them longer even if there warn and get grip still. Parts wear on Truggys depends on the brand some wear faster than others but its not that bad really.

Truggys you can drive harder and there just more fun period ! Ive raced a nitro buggy for a season so i would know. Now one thing depending on where you live at Truggy is still pretty strong hell the outdoor track i go to has more Truggys racing than buggys most of the time outdoors.


I think Truggy racing is more exiciting than buggy racing its always much closer ! Im not being bias ethier.

So its up to you of what you can afford and whats more of a class at your track . But i would pick truggy and take a look at the Associated RC8TCE or the Mugen MBX6T .

The price of truggy tires and wheels is ridiculous, but it is fun as hell to drive. I just love the look of truggies too. The mugen is a great car minus how they went with pillowballs instead of c-hubs (harder to adjust).

but like Zero and Bigwave mention in short....
truggy more expensive for parts tires etc.
example set of "Racing type Tires" can run up to $80.00 a "Set" (4)
and buggy roughly around $50.00 a set.....more or less....

and the Losi's are one of the few more "Comercialy Known" that are compleate with getting rolling.
they come with Starter boxes and related accessories except fuel and Starter box Batteries....

as well Mugen's, X-Ray's, Associated,
Losi, Hotbodies D8 and D8T etc. all are well suited for racing.

buggies however are more "Popular" and are "Faster" in General....
being there a bit more "Nimble" in corners and able to dart out corners a little quicker..
both can be either Frustrating or easy to drive? really depends on the "Driver"
some people "Preffer Buggies" some "Preffer Truggies"
the trucks are little more "Stable" but a trade off for not being supper quick
out of corners but they are fun....buggies and really depends on the driver again,but they need a little more "Attention" when driving...not always
but when the skills "Increase" to go faster they require a little more Finesse..
they are in some cases about 2 to sometimes 3 pounds lighter than truggies.
buggies you'll be able to easily find that 99.9% of the .21 motors will be "More than enough" for racing or fun appications.....
truggies....if not racing? any .25 or .28 will move the truggies with some serious Authority !!!...:)
but they get less runtime......
if racing most club racing and events only allow .21 type motors..
and for Motors for this application is a compleate Debate all in itself !!

at "National Events" i run Nova BTT's
but there are a grip of motors out there right on par, a good one as well
the Werks B5..and at 199.00 a hard deal to beat ........

that depends on your "Shopping Ability".......????
and your Ideals of your Expectations?
will you be racing?
or having fun at your local open lot ?
or Racing "Once in Awhile"....???

and for upkeep and "Tuning".....nitro can be FUN !!! but Frustrating if
one has a hard time with Tuning his or her motors??
by no means is it Complicated? but like a Guitar takes a little time to know
"What to do" when tuning...
at many tracks there are usually one or 2 guys or Gals,
that have a good handle on the Basics,and are fast...
talking to them as well can help Allot !!!......
and "Parts".....try and narrow it down to decide if you do race?
be good idea to have a car you can get parts for "Locally"
in case if you break that 2.00 part? you not loading up and heading "Home"
because the shop or the local shops do not have "Those Parts"

Couple of things concerning truggys.

Intelligent shopping can cut the cost of tires. Sweep truggy Square Armor pre-glued on choice of wheels (2) will run $35 and tires alone are $15 They are decent tires. Shop around for sales and etc.

Also, the rougher the track, the faster truggys run. It is not unusual for truggys to turn faster lap times on large, rough tracks.

They only reason i race with a .21 is for fuel economy. Trust me it has some friekin scoot on the straightaway but bottom end could be better (think it's my clutch and gearing). No limits.......i'd go with a .25 or .28.

-The CVD's and bone pins need replaced more often on the truggy.
-Truggy arms are longer and have more leverage on the gear case and can cause more damage in a wreck.
-Truggy bodies are flimsy and more expensive.
-larger truggy wheels are easier to bend and warp

I can't resist big power in a truggy. If I could find a truggy fuel tank that would fit in my XB9, I'd run a OS .28xz in my Buggy! (club days are "Open buggy" E&N mixed together, 7 min main, no .21 engine restriction)

If you learn how to drive a buggy driving a truggy will be a tad easier. Don't worry about the parts maintaining your kits will be a big plus it will prevent premature breakage. Either way you will need to spend money make sure you check your local tracks double check what's popular. Many kits to pick from I've tired a few but the serpent line is durable you won't be buying a lot of parts for sure they also perform awesome.
