something other then WD40?
I clean my car with simple green and then usually spray it with WD 40. It seems to collect more dirt this way. Anything else other then WD 40 that prevents rusting? thanks

Don't use it, it leaves a horrible white coating as well.
GT85 is what we use here in the UK.

This is what I use. Can get it for $5 at Lowe's or elsewhere... If you can find the Non-Stick Dry-Film Lubricant (spray), that is even better.
Also keep in mind none of the above will simply 'wash away'. It requires cleaning to actually remove the product.

I coat the outside of my bearings with grease, water can't get in. Hinge pins are coated in grease or diff lube (depending on brand of car). And my bolts........well, who cars if they look a little rusty.
Sometimes I'll have a little cosmetic corrosion, but I never have any that affects function.
After the radio/engine is off, I rinse, simple green, rinse, let dry a bit in the sun, hose down with Pledge/Prep&Shine/WD.

Beat me to it. Simple green, hose off w/ water, blow everything dry, and finish w/ the Kalgard P&S. THIS stuff smells amazing and makes everything look brand new.

looks like kalgard may be the way to go. Anyone use their degreaser?
