Back when i was sponsored buy Alpha Tires i asked if i could do this and was told YES. Alpha Told me the more guys trying the tries the better and if guys like them they will buy more even if the Sponsored guy don't have any for sale so the tires company gets to sale tires at full price.

Most guys will not pay full price to try new tires but if you sale them tires for like $25.00 a full set with only 1 are 2 races on them guys will pay that and give them a try.

I could see that to be the case if it's a new tire brand. But for any established brand with consistent sales, the role of a team driver is to promote local shop sales, not compete with them. I don't see any local pro-line or aka drivers around here undercutting the local shops and tracks.

I think that's fair in the case of a new brand. But the intent is to eventually push racers to buy the product through the normal supply chain (ie the storefront or LHS). In the long run, many new manufacturers want GP and Horizon to carry their products. Sure, they won't make nearly the same margins, but they make up for it with pure volume and marketing. The distributors are not going to be nearly as interested in carrying a line if they know that team drivers are competing with the LHS. That would be equivalent to the manufacturer competing with the distributor as well.

Our track was going to have an AKA tire spec race, the person(no longer racing at our track) that was in talks with AKA, leaked the cost info we were going to be getting the tires for this race. I sh!t myself, and everyone else did/would too. Even at that price im sure they were still making money. I will never pay what retail is for tires, never! Its a rip off.

Yes this will only work with New Brands you will not see Pro-Line Drivers are AKA drivers doing this. I have see it with New Pro-Line tires that just came out drivers would give them to guys to try and keep and it worked great and i went and Ordered 2 sets the next day.

and just tires with foam for 20 for 4 to promote thier product they also sell any of thier patterns that they have with them at the same price.

Aka are made in USA also. The reason you see shortages of AKA tires sometimes is because the government only allows them to melt a certain amount of rubber a day due to the toxic fumes they release. Got that info straight from AKA when I called to bitch that nothing was in stock anywhere.

I so wish they would develop some more modern foams of their own. I would be all over the panther tires if they did.

you can buy panther tires without foam (much cheaper) and use whatever foam you'd like.

ya know, i was thinking the other day....

wouldnt it be great to go to one website, and be able to order any tire in any compound, with any foam, on any wheel and have them premounted and shipped to you?

I think that would be super convenient for the racer who likes a certain brand of tire with a different brand of foam and rim.

If I were to do it, I'd call it "rcpremounts.com"

Or maybe a huge online store could do it and just charge a small fee for doing it. Either way, Im sure there would be a crap load of racers buying tires that way and there would be a ton of money to be made.

Just a thought....... One can dream right?

I personally like mounting my own tires for the fact i can FEEL them before mounting and see what foams fit best and what I'd prefer to run.

I'll mount buggy tires if I absolutely have to with the cheater machine but premounts please. They don't stay on the car long enough to be that finicky over them.
