hey guys,

Is it ok to have a slight slant between the spur gear & clutchbell teeth like this? I've not been able to make them completely parallel unless I remove some parts of the engine mount to avoid the drive shaft (using a O.S XZ-B engine).

It's meant to be like that mate, if you download the 2010/2011 instruction manual it shows this angle is correct, they don't seem to explain this in the XB9 manual

EDIT: You can download it here, Page 27.

I had to remove a small amount from the crankcase to avoid the driveshaft with my OS XZ-B. But, I am using the king heads mount which doesnt allow much to line my motor as in the pics you have. I could have hacked up the rock guard to allow me to move the motor away from the driveshaft, but I wanted to utilize the flex adjustments

I don't see a prob with the slant, my clutch bells and spurs knock on wood are always in good shape. Never have to change.

I think the manual mentions that you have to remove some material from the crank case

Yes, I remember when I built my 2010spec 808 the manual instructed to install the engine at a slight slant to clear the rear center shaft and for proper spur/clutch bell mesh. The XB9 manual however says to remover material from the engine's crankcase. I really don't see why either approach would be any more or less beneficial than the other...

Now I do have a question, as far as shocks go, what are some good starting point. This being aim at more the us style tracks. I think I'm going to start off with the kit supplied 600cst. (or Losi 45wt.) up front with 1.2, 8 hole pistons and the kit supplied 500cst.(or Losi 40wt.) in the rear with 1.1, 10 hole pistons. I would like to hear from those in the states that have done a bit of suspension tuning.

That would probably be pretty good. It tried the kit setup 8 1.2 with 500cst front and it was a bit soft. 600 maybe the ticket for the front.

I haven't tried the 1.1-10 holes in the rear, but Grizz seems to like them. I ran out of time but plan to try them soon.

I liked this setup as far as shocks-

Front- 525 cst
1.3x8 pistons
Blue-Grey Springs
Rear- 500 cst
1.3x8 pistons
Blue-Grey Springs

I am going to try some Kyosho springs in a couple of weeks so I'll tell yall how that goes.

Possibly something to do with the way the buggy flexes. Just throwing that out there.

The motor and center diff are mounted at a angle to each other to reduce wear at the center cvds and trying to centralize the weight of the buggy

Lol...thanks, I brought that car back and only just sold it again about a month ago. This XB9 looks the business, I can't wait to get it on the track. I loved the 2010 808, damn thing was like a cadillac on the track. So easy to drive and Xray has to be the only car I've owned, where the last thing I worry about is a broken part.
