I had a Marui Big Bear. iirc, it was the first monster truck rc. My friend had a kyosho Ultima and he did really well against the RC10s. ah, the days.

That car has the most centered engine I've seen and looks lighter than anything available today! Sell me one!!!! What's old becomes the latest and greatest again.

I remember when I had a Traxxas TRX-1 and a Traxxas Hawk both with Novak's T1 esc, Reedy 12 turn triple, Futaba servos and the old Futaba radio with all the pots that you had the included screwdriver to dial them in. My good old Tamiya Blackfoot with the hex dogbones that stripped out all the time along with my original Hotshot that exploded into a wall with a 7 turn modified motor powering it into the wall, ahhh good times. I also had the original RC10 GT with the black tub and powered by the good old OS 12. All those cars are gone now but so many good times with all of them.

I think we ran the Masters at that track one year, it looks familiar. This makes me appreciate the tradition and history. They still do those races the same way today with the timing and scoring and tables set up and stuff. Kyosho always does a good job.

You remember when there was no Internet nor forums? Just RC magazines

I had the very first kyosho ultima.

I also had the original 5 link losi jrx2. That was innovation.

Remember Novak was top of the food chain. Novak t4

I also had the Tekin bc100l charger. Heck, I even had a panda charger.

12 light bulbs for discharging. They use to get hot as heck.

$26 for crystals. The cool people were on 27mhz band.

I use to think ANYONE who had an optima mid or optima mid SE was the best racers in the world just because they had one.

Remember when the clod busters went faster backwards than forward.

Anyone had a big grizzly.

Manual speed controllers that almost caught on fire.

Futuba sport and jr with analog dials.

Dirt oval was this $hit!

Those generic white body mounts for truck conversions.

Cheap solder irons and extremely difficult to solder the cap wire on the motor can.

Glitching always over at that one spot on the track.

Your good batteries and your practice batteries.

Skinny front truck wheels for the rc10t

Mounting your Esc on the shock tower

Servo tape your steering servo

Long antenna wire.

Those were the days!

..... 1200 SCR and 1500 SCE NiCad's that gave 4-5 mins run time off a full charge.

......Baracuda Smart Charger - This thing was MASSIVE and was a revelation as it did thermal, peak and cycle charges, and cost about 200 in 1989

Chain driven Kyosho Optima

Tamiya Technigold motors......

I remember turning up to a track as a noob, with a Hong Nor buggy and they all said "WTF is that, never heard of it, that will break"
and an OS engine "hahaha they make plane engines, won't last, you need a Novarossi"

When I burned my finger on that cement heat sink from the Tamiya mechanical speedos.

The "Gecko" discharger

TC tire rubber was harder than a hockey puck.

Futaba Megatech stick radio (which I still use on my play cars)

Toaster oven dial chargers with the analogue meter

-Small detour-

That narrow mindedness made me think of this article

Made me laugh, related to this topic aswell as you don't see many CMB engines anymore.

For all the armchair egineers

I remember the rough rider and the grass hopper. Almost all cars had white plastic ABS bodies. The chain drive optima was my first "racer" when the first pistol grip radios came out, tamyia hard case hump packs and 12 hour wall chargers and when my buddies got a 15 min charger that could charge 6 and 7 cell batteries
When high end esc came out and there were only 3 wires. plastic bushings were standard oil lite bushings were an upgrade and bearing sets were about $70
