I like the idea of the ingraved cubes.. Those look pretty classy too. Much nicer then the "Bowling" Trophies or $1 wall hangers..

This is not to start war but just a question. Have you ever promoted or held your own race? I have and am going to next year. Even at 70.00 with the cost of everything I and other people are not "getting rich or greedy" Nobody is giving up money to sponsor events now a days. That's why races like AMS gets so many sponsors because we just ask for product. Whats all the cost? Bobcat rental, port a potties, new pipe, awards, more dirt, someone to call the races, renting the facility and one of the biggest killers so far for me PAYPAL.

Those trophies were handed out for a series they called the Triple Crown series up here in North Dakota.. Three races at 3 different tracks during the summer.. Bottles were empty, added colored water to help high lite them.. the final race this year is the 10th of Sept, at wheels wings and hobbies in Mandan,ND. I did'nt get to run it this year, but will make the final one. come on up!!!

I was waiting for someone to comment on that earlier post.

We built a track last year when the LHS closed. We actually 'inherited' a bunch of stuff that we modified/made work for our track, driver stand, announcers booth, pit road and some pipe. I don't really want to say it. but to date over $13,000 invested for an outdoor track that we run 5-6 races a year at. NOT counting the used skid steer that we bought this spring. We have a nice set-up going, but it is no where near the 'facility' that some places are. We put on a benefit/trophy race a few weeks ago. about what I expected for turnout for a first year event. Sponsors were gracious enough to send well over $1000 in prizes for the raffle and we raised just over $800 for our charity. The Track made about $400 for the one race. If we would not spend anymore money of the track, forever. we would have to run 60 of those races to break even.

to the issue at hand, top 3 in 7 classes for our race 18" x 20" plaque with a sticker on it, $500 plus tax and we got a good deal cause the company gave us a break.

On the personal side, I've raced long enough and in enough divisions for 19+ years that if it's not top 3 in the A main, I don't want an award for it. Part of the problem in america is "everyone gets a participation ribbon" mentality.

When you open your own track and can get a big enough race to "rake in the money" and make small RC companies(even the biggest RC companies I consider small in the grand scheme of things) pay for banner space, I'll tip my hat. Until then, I'll just laugh and smile and go work on my track. Did i mention that my Dad and I do 98% of the work on our track, and we don't get paid. lol

I'll take a plaque (Expensive or inexpensive) over a trophy any day of the week. The bottom line is, trophies take shelf space to display, whereas plaques are easily hung on a wall. I have a 5-shelf storage unit full of trophies from local races and my big race trophies are so large that they won't even fit on the shelving units. While they sit in obscurity in the basement, my plaques and plates are proudly displayed on the walls of my room.

Also, I have no reason to be proud for receiving an award for finishing 4th in a B-Main. Top 3 in the A and TQ only. For kids races, that's a different story but if we're talking big events, the awards should mean something and not be handed out like Halloween candy.

So you are saying you want a trophy for losing? I could care less about a trophy, I dont need a trohpy to know I won. I guarantee you that a guy in 10th doesnt need a trophy to know he lost.

When you go to a race with 80 buggy's in just the Open Class i think you need Trophy for the top 10 in the A Main. You done a good job just making the A Main with that many good drivers and you should get something to show for it.

Now at a Club race i think it just needs to be the top 5 in the A Main. Club races only have like 20 -30 buggy's show up so you are only gone to have a A and B Main and if your not in the top 5 in the A main you don't need any thing to show off its not that Big of a deal to make the top 5 out of 20-30 buggy's.

this is what you can expect from a local Mini Z race, usually there is at least 5 price per list so there is big cup for top 3 , 2 smaller price for the next ( always reward people that are close to the podium) and small medal for everbody as a thanks for coming up and stay until the prize give away .
Usually the body shell is for the best youngest performer.

Ok, i have to answer this one. I am one of the guys that helped put on Silver State for 2011. We charged 65 per entry because we knew we had expenses that we had to cover, but we as racers absolutely hate the insane entry Fee. We had some arguments a couple times before we agreed to 65, as some wanted what it was the year before and some wanted less.

For us, the main issue was the track. We dont own the facility, so we had to rent it, and the group that controls it charged us a pretty penny for the race. I cant give numbers, but they ended up with a little more then half the entry fees. We had 3 weekend of equipment rentals to build the track, and we paid the JBRL crew to come run the event. We had the ability, but JBRL's crew had the experience to make the race go smoothly, and i think most of the racers enjoyed it. After paying for those, there was not a lot of money left over to cover the track for the rest of the year of racing. Plus, every club race we have, costs us most of a days entries just to hold racing for 8th scales here.
