(1) what would be considered the minimum size stick packs for a starterbox to get a day's racing - say 20 starts easily?
Seem to rememeber I had 3600mah years ago.....
Tempting to get the 5000's but they are 50% more expensive......

BTW LiPo is not an option just yet

(2) how many mah should I be putting back into my Intellect 1600mah humpie (RC8B with Savox 1258TG's)

get a Cheep 12V Gel Cell and call it done, ive charged mine once at the start of the season, and it still fires the car up like its fully charged. most starter boxes have mounts inside for stick packs or a Gel Cell.

i took the mount to a battery shop and got one that fit the bracket mint.

12V won't quite do it - I have 3 different 12V batteries, gel cel and lead acid.

Need 14.4V (as it works great off the car when I have the engine running so the alternator is putting out about 13.8V)

In my first lightweight starterbox I had 2 cheap NiCad 1500mAh packs and they were OK for a day and even 2 days start, Now I am using 3000mAh NiMh and still they are fine after 3 years of use and I can use them for 2 weekends and still no sign of getting empty.

Personal I do think people do overrate the needed battery.

Can't see a LiPo is needed. If same price then yes, but here it is $80 for cheap LiPo plus I'd need a charger.
If two 3000 stick packs at $25 each would do it I'm not going LiPo!!

The answer to Q2 is 1600mah you dont want to over charge it.
its prbably not gonna last to long in that car but you can still use it.

I dont see why you say 12V wont do it.... for 2 years I used a 12v pB battery and never had an issue. It would spin over the most stubborn engine without an issue. The only reason I switched to lipo was due to the weight. Im currently running 2 4000mAh 40C 2S lipos and charge/balance them about once every 3 months.. LOL

On Q2 The Savox servos tend to be a tad power hungry. If the pack is totally dead you could probably comfortable get 1700-1750mA back into the pack. Most of the NiMh packs will comfortably hold more than the rating. I never set a mAh limit on the charger so it take the pack to its full potential....

I think the 3300mah one I got was AU$28.

Re-your hump pack, from approx 5.2v starting voltage (totally discharged) you should be able to fit about 1500mah into it, it should peak at around 7.5v'ish
After a days racing (6 x 7 min heats) you'll have used around 1000mah I would expect.

I just put 800mah in it after a couple tanks of running in and 1.5 tanks driving around.

Looks like i will grab a couple of 3000mah stick packs and they will be plenty

so I don't need to buy a new charger too (gee what is with all the LiPo responses lol)
