$1 dollar bearings, do you re-grease them before using them?

  • I'm a buy a new bearing / toss the old bearing away type of guy. Does anyone out their blow out the grease on these still when they are brand new and put your lube of choice in them? This is what I do but I'm starting to think I'm crazy.

    I was thinking about doing this just for the diff housing and diff gear bearings but leaving the stock grease on the hub's and steering area.

    If your a person like me and replace your bearings every gallon more or less, what do you do? If you keep the grease in do you like protek, tko, avid's or roller bearing grease stock grease better then another stock grease?
  • I dont clean any of them out except for the rear clutchbell bearing. the grease works just fine and it gets really smooth after 1 tank of fuel
  • i run avid's revolutions in my 8t and the price works out to about $1 each. i run them as they come for 1 race and then when i tear the truck down to clean it, i clean them out and re-oil them. i can get 3-4 cleanings out of them. if i oil them and can not get a "smooth" feel, they get pitched and i throw in a new one.

    You get a gallon on a clutch bearing?

  • I use Tko $1 bearings and just run them as is. I don't see the point in cleaning out the grease as you are just going to toss it and replace it in a gallon anyway. As for cb bearings I like the Tko special bearings. They do last over a gallon and usually outlast the shoes. They are $3 each but well worth the peace of mind.

    X2. plus the TKO special bearings increased my clutch lift as well

    i have got over 2 gallons on a 1.00 clutch bearing, clutch bell play and gear mesh play a big factor in how long a bearing will last

    i have a parts cleaner that i wash them off in and then i just place a few drops of oil on 1 side and rotate a few times, oil again, rotate, ect. untill i don't see anymore grime coming out. a little time consuming, but i am on a tight budget and i can usually get 3-4 gallons on them before replacing.
  • I run 4C hobby and supply bearings. They have $1 bearings and they have GT series bearings that are a little bit more expensive but are well worth the extra money. Both bearings will work just fine just the way they come.

    I have had a set of the TKO Special bearings last 3.5 gallons... Just take em out and oil em with SpeedX after every race day and you are good to go... I average ~1.5-2 gallons on a set now just to be safe...

    If they're 1.00 each, why would you risk running the same bearings for 2 gallons?

    When I've done it. I take of the seal with an xacto knife. I the use an air compressor to blow out the grease. Then a little Nitro spray. Spin it a few times. Let it dry for a few minutes. Then use the grease of my choice. But heck I see most people just run them as the come, so I might not be so anal from now on and save some time.

    I will still pack my grease of choice for the diff bulkhead bearings though on my Serpent S811.

    yes. I use whatever I have laying around the shop..all $1 or less. Answer-VP pro, or ready roller. Gear mesh and chassis flex is key to clutch bearings, but check em every race anyway.

    i dont even do that. I wipe them off, DO NOT BLOW THEM OFF,youll push debirs into the bearing. i run mine 2-2.5 gallons every time,never had one fail.
