It can be done but I'd avoid it. Sand gets EVERYWHERE. If you're going to Run sand, I hope you have a designated basher. I'd never run my race buggy on anything except well groom grass and the track.
However that's just my opinion. There are companies that make paddle tires for increased traction.

On a side note, I've seen a ton of videos of guys running their 1/5 Scale Buggies on sand dunes in Dubai. I don't know if they have any problems but they seem to scream up these dunes.

What kind of sand? Like beach sand?
My private track and a local track is sand based. When wet it has loads of traction. It gets very rough to drive on. RC X Fest is also a sandy track. It is fun to drive on but it is a pain to clean.
Beach sand/dune sand is another story.

I wouldnt run in sand. Not with my race chassis.

If it's like grainy like beach sand I ran my slash 4x4 in it and it wreaked havoc had to lean everything out. Same thing with my RC8e at the time but not as bad. I vowed to stay out of sand from then on.
