screw it, wear goggles. You might look funny though!

seriously though, keep your exhaust down wind and back away from the starter box! You do have a wireless remote, you don't have to be all up on the engine to warm it up.

... goggle dont protect from fumes...

and to the rest it's the nitro in the fuel that burns your eyes. It's the tiny particles of unburnt fuel coming in contact with your very absorbant eyes.

well it's true. I always stay clear of the exhaust, and most times once i put the ignitor down, i get out of the way of the exhaust. And most times i just back away completly. No need though, it's second nature to me to just stay away from the exhaust. Besides once i quite using oddonell i didn't bother me more anyway. But my primary reason is the oil that some times comes out of the pipe will stain cloths. I have alot of cloths with those stains so now they are my racing cloths!

If it doesn't burn you up, it's not worth running.

Now that i think about it...that's true....Back a couple years ago when my family was motorcycle racing we got R-Tech (VP Master Mixer Blend)....it's quite clear when you have good racing fuel...upon pouring it into the tank boy did it burn all the hair you have and ever will have in your nose...but shoot it was around a 10-12 hp gain when combined with the right fuel injector map.

My apologies for the nerd alert.

I think it varies from person to person. I ran the race blend and had no problems, but I easily recognize its smell. On the other hand, the speed blend does burn my eyes, so some fuel affects others differently.
