I own this book, I am a mechanical engineer, I work with full size race car suspension systems. RCVD is very helpful. It is almost exclusively math based, so you may need to brush up on your trig and calculus. Tune to win is a better "at the track" book, it is easier to read and understand.

I like the xray/hudy guide. I have two printed out ones stays at home the other in my pit box. Soley for rc cars and tells you what everything does and what to do to accomplish what you want.

Tires can be scaled (ie 1/10 , 1/8) dirt and ashpalt is not. So most of
the information in a book like this is based around 1/1 tires traction
characteristics not RC tires. Once you understand that, there will be
alot of useful info if you truly want to know the WHY's and not just
how.

In other words do you want to know what time it is? Get the Hudy
or one of the other strictly RC setup guides.

Want to know how to build the Clock? that book is a good place to start.
