Default Starter box batteries

Just got a Hudy 1/8 offroad starter box and was wondering how to power it.

I know 2 NiMh 7.2v batteris will do. I heard from people that a LiPo battery 14.8v will also do just fine but it might get destroyed if it discharges below a certain voltage or something. I was wondering if I could use a Nicad battery instead.

Any suggestions on how to go?

Thanks

you can get a LiPo low voltage buzzer alarm, they are like 2-5 bucks shipped off ebay, they will go off (you'll def hear it) if the LiPo gets to low of a voltage. i use them because i dont want to chance it, i see alot of other people using them also.

Go with the 4s lipo. You will be much happier with the power it delivers. I use one and I dont have a buzzer or anything that tells me that my lipo is getting close to 3.0 per cell. I just throw it on the charger after 2 or 3 race weekends to top it off.

Default Yep

I agree, when my friend Joe hooked me up with a blue OFNA box he told me to loose the old NiMh batteries and use a big ol 4 cell battery. It's a 3300 4 cell. It works great. I top it off after every two race days, but I'm sure it will last longer than that. So much better than the NiMh batteries that loose power when sitting in the garage...

the alarm isn't a bad idea though....I do know that most starter box batteries are really small, get hot, and die too soon on one charge, go with a bigger battery and forgetaboutit...

i've been running 2s lipos in my 1/10 for over 2 yrs now. so i was quite keen to try the 4s (turnigy 5000mah) in my starterbox.
on the very 1st race day, 1 of the cells puffed. i could still finish the rest of the day bcos the remaining 3 cells were putting out enough voltage to turn the engine over.
i still have the batt. it is still puffed & growing. i'm not going to use it any more.

but it makes me think if i should be getting 2x LiFe 2s packs next (very keen to try LiFe, besides, i could use the 2s on my 1/10 cars), or a smaller capacity 4s.

Default Starter Box battery

I use a 12V Motorcyle battery. much less expensive than lipo
http://motolite.com/battery.php?id=20

maintenance-free and can be charge in any battery charger with "PB/lead acid" option.

What sort of life do you get out of these before having to charge it again?
