I use a 12v gel cell pb battery, my lipo charger will charge it in the pb mode with ac current. I was using two 3600 NIMH and the charge would not last a race day. The pb battery is heavier but well worth the power it delivers.

I use a 12V Motorcyle battery. much less expensive than lipo

maintenance-free and can be charge in any battery charger with "PB/lead acid" option.

Cheaper then lipo, Not really. With the prices of HK lipo's these days, There's quite a few option's that are available For 20$, Not to mention the fact if your PB pack dies on you there's No such thing as a Fast charge like Lipo's or Nimh.
Yes they would work just fine, Little more voltage Vs 2X 7.4v but wont hurt anything what so ever.

everything being equal, two 7.4(3300mah) packs pack plenty of punch......if the engines giving you any resistance, just heat the block.......aways a good idea, anyway............use a heat gun.....hair drier will not do the trick......

Currently have a 12V PB battery that works without issue. However, some very good points have been made for using LiPo batteries. That will definitely be my next batteries that i use in the starter box.
