I am piecing togther all the equipment to run a nitro buggy at the moment. Just want some advice on what other things I should be looking to ads to the kit, and anything I may have forgotten. At present this is my list:

Already have:

Buggy
Motor/pipe
Servos
Starter Box
Hex drivers

Need:

Radio
Batterys: RX and starter box batts
Glow plug ignitor
A few spare glow plugs
Fuel
Tyres and wheels

Considering:

Competition heat engine heater
Temp gun


From that list, is there anything I am missing that would be considered a neccessity to get the most out of running a nitro, and even perhaps things that arent completely necessary, but a great item to have that makes life that bit easier, ie certain tools, or gadgets.

do you have a budget? This is another thread started that is going to get a bunch of fan boy responses. There are so many competitive choices now. Any race radio will do for club really. The compition heat is definitely a good choice, and some set up tools, digital calipers and camber gauge at least.

Im not so much looking for advice on what brand of radio/batts/etc etc to get, more just what other things I need/want to get up and running.

pretty much what you listed along with set up equipment. Things like tire balancer make a big difference. Being able to do percise camber, toe, ride hight, make a world of difference.

IMO you could remove the Competition heat engine heater because to start it is not as important and it is really expensive. Spend that money in HUDY setup board for exemple

Well you will defiantly need shock oil diff oil I would recommend PT RC products or the Team Losi line. For a radio a great radio is the new futaba 4pl or the new airtronics mt4 radio or even the dx3. Hobbico Glow ignitors work awesome. Battery wise I would say protek. and tires wheels i would recommend VP Pro them seem to last longer and work great. What buggy and motor did you go with?

Setup equipment is great but I don't think it is as mandatory as some people say. I got my hudy setup system over a year after I was racing and still only use it few times.

Front/rear upper/lower arms
Extra air filters
Bearings
Extra clutch springs/bearings
Extra receiver/trans battery
Extra tires
Pipe springs/gaskets
Clutch bell/shoes (not as important)

I would get all the things I listed before I got an expensive setup system. If you have money righ now to throw around then definitely get it.

Don't skimp on charger/servos

don't need a setup station, but atleast digital caliper and rpm camber gauge. Losi ride height gauge is nice to. Losi tire balancer as well. You can do anything you need for setup with those.

Okay thanks everyone.

Had completely forgot about after run oils etc, so will add that in to my next order. Not sure I will worry about a setup station just yet, need to learn to drive it consistently first!

@Josh: I bought a used in serpent at a grea price with only a couple of race days on it, still looks next to brand new, and a JS engine with pipe.

EZ Up
Pit Mat or Towel
Fuel Bottle
Pit Bag
Small Wash Bucket with Brush and Simple Green


All of these are not completely necessary but you may end up buying in the future.

The Hudy setup station is nice but for the money this is also pretty awesome: Team Integy Universal Off Road Setup Statio its $75...

I would also definitely recommend an EZ-UP as well...
