Questions?? Which 1/8 buggy to get?

I'm looking to get another nitro buggy. My first buggy was a 1/10 exceed rc buggy and let's just say, it wasn't a warm welcome into the hobby. Now I want a 1/8 nitro buggy and I'm kind of stuck which one to get.
1. I will only be bashing this, mostly on dirt/grass and some asphalt
2. My budget is about $300

I looked into the Ofna 7 Hyper with a .28 engine, but .28's are gas guzzlers and I don't have all that much money to buy gallons upon gallons of fuel.
I'm stuck between the:
1. Redcat racing Backdraft 3.5 with 2 speed and .21 engine
2. Or the Ofna Hyper 7 1 speed and .21 engine
The hyper 7 has aluminum parts, but on the other hand its only 1 speed
The Backdraft 3.5 is 2 speed, but its mostly plastic, so i dont want it to break that easy. I dont want really want to sacrifice speed, but on the other hand, I want a good durable buggy that won't break easily. Does anyone have any advice??
Oh and I'm welcome to any other buggy suggestions

To be honest, a number of individuals have reported problems with the Redcat Racing UltraLight Series of vehicles. However, those problems occurred with the OLDER versions of those vehicles and Redcat Racing has made the necessary improvements. Regarding the OFNA Hyper 7, it is still considered by many to be one of the 'go-to' beginner buggies. Hence, I am quite sure that you'll be happy with that particular buggy. With respect to other choices with .21 engines, check the links below:

Hope this helps .

Would a 1/8 buggy with .21 engine and 1 speed transmission be slow compared to my 1/10 buggy with .18 engine and 2 speed transmission?

The Hyper 7 has a two speed option!! Look into the option parts listed for the Hyper 7 http://www.ofna.com/h7opt.php
I almost got the hyper 7 but got decided to go with Jammin X1x instead for $300 from Amain hobbies because I wanted something more sporty...plus it has those 16mm big bore shocks.

OFNA Ultra LX-1. RTR for around $270. Last I looked, Tower has them. I owned one of these and it was a bashing monster. Fast and durable. You won't be disappointed.

Good for bashing, Losi great at the beginning but, will loosen up overtime means you have replace some of the parts. I guess that is ok with a lot of people because they are purchasing them.

I'm thinking the New LX2. All around better car for a little more. Ofna is a good place to start, bang for the buck, then later get the good stuff. Warning, this hobby likes money.

If your budget is 300 then you are pretty limited. I would say either Losi of hb and pick up a nova bf 3 port or a works b5

Hb buggy

B5
