I recently charged my 1700mAh RX pack @ 1.7 amps and it started to balloon pretty badly. Did I charge it too high?

I charge them at 1C. My 2300mAh lipo stick for THE Car charges at 2.3Amps.

Not sure but I usually charge mine at 1.2 amps the first time and then I'll charge at 1C from then on out. Maybe you just got a bad pack or your charger's rating is off and allowing more amps than whats displayed.

I'm guessing this is a nimh pack and if it is I wouldn't charge it over 1 amp and more realistically I would charge it at .7-.8amps. It takes a while bit you don't want to overheat nimh cells

I charge our stickman 1,600 mah nimh packs at 3.0 amps all of the time when at the track. When home I go with 1.0 amp.

Over a years worth of use and no problems.

Don't matter the type of battery. Either NiMh, NiCd or Lipo. I always charge at 1C.

The same as what ever the pack is rated. 1700mah charge at 1.7 amps. You can do a quick peak if its already charged at .4-.5 higher buy watch out for the pack getting to hot. Heat will kill a battery no matter what type it is. Theoreticly it should take 1 hour at 1C. But it is hardly the case. At 1C, a completly drained pack will usually only takes about 45-50 minutes at 1C. I only do a peak charge if I plan on running 30 minutes or more. Lipo's are kind of different. If you charge them to much the expand or possibly blow up.
Most of the time a NiMH/NiCD will ballon from physical damage more than from charging it to high. Or if you tried to charge it on the wrong setting ( Lead/Acid instead of NiMH).
