Buy whatever your budget allows. There is no best. Plus it's a truggy. Pretty much anything with big tires and a wide stance and you'll be competitive in the demolition derby, err sportsman truggy class
Also try doing a search for "best truggy" including quotes and scroll for previous threads that discuss this identical topic.

I'm partial to the D8T since I run one and it's very very nice. I previously ran an XRay XT8 (Original Spec not the 09 Spec) and loved that one as well. Mugen MBX5T is nice as well and can be found cheap, but if you want current tech then the D8T will fit nicely into your budget for sure.

Any of the top brands are fantastic! I'd recommend heading to your local track and checking them out, possibly having an opportunity to drive some a few laps before purchasing.

The Savage engine will work in the interim for sure.....won't be a powerhouse, but it will get the job done.

i will look into the b5. i looked it up for 200.00 not bad. i seen one giuy with a reedy .21 in his mugen, that thing was insane.. i just want my truck to get up and go quick. im reading up on the d8t as we speak and only up to 50 of 150 pages lol.. anxious to see whats gonna come of it

The B5 is a GREAT engine for sure. Just make sure if you buy one you get the 2013 or the 2058 pipe to match it. Insane power....even without modding it. I'm still torn between Werks engines and Alpha Plus engines. I love em both at the moment....I think I like the rebuild prices on Alpha a little bit better, but the workmanship on the Werks is top notch.....
Can't go wrong with either IMHO.

as said the werks b5 and D8t are both solid...if you can not affored a werks pipe right off the bat try and get ahold of a AE 2035 good pipe until you are ready to unleash the full potential of the B5 with a werks pipe.
