I been using the Venom 14.8v 4-cell. Cheap to buy and has been doing great.
She spins the Dynamite 2-motor box fast enough to engage the clutches.

Hi Guys,

Just doing this Mod - probably being a bit thick, but can someone confirm where the capacitor is wired into the circuit ?

Thanks

Across the coil. A page or two back, there is a link to a schematic on the connection. It has the connection of the cap.

If you have a video fo your OFNA ride on Youtube please send me the link so I can review and maybe post it on our OFNAfan.com website. We wanna have bashers, crashers and racers in their OFNA's tearing it up. Bring it, Titans, DM-1's, GTP's, Dominators, Pirates or even old school Colts if you got a vid send it to me at DJ@ofna.com.

Even crazy modded OFNA starter boxes that will turn over anything.
Or even a how to vid.

Thanks for the help on this guys - I had melted the plastic where the contacts sit on my box running a 4s Lipo, replaced plastics/contacts and wired up the relay and capacitor - the spark on the contacts is tiny compared to before.

This is a cheap and easy upgrade and well worth the effort

Cheers

Neil

This was one of the first posts I looked at when I wanted to go to Lipo. So I realize that it's likely been posted before, but when I went to Lipo I wanted my starter box contact switch to last, for a long time. So I added a relay. Once I got that far I decided to re-build (ans solder) the whole thing. I added charge/check ports and a voltage buzzer. The box is excellent now, and is dummy proof (the buzzer is ANNOYING and LOUD).

Since I've been asked before I drew up a quick wiring diagram. The way it's wired, if the switch is off, nothing works, not even the charge ports or buzzer. That way if the switch is off there is no chance of something bridging the ports and shorting things out. I unplug the deans for transport as a secondary safety.

Hopefully this all makes sense. I used a typical automotive SPST (Single pole/single throw) relay available at almost any auto parts store. I'll have to post a pic of the actual box later, as I don't have one yet.

the 40amp wasn't any good for me. The second day using the box, the 40amp relay went out on me. i went back to direct connect. one more thing for you to fail during a race day. no bueno for me!

I have no clue what rating Mine and buddy's are, But i did them about a month ago and we've had a few race days and practice days on them with zero issues. I just grabbed a pair of them from my Old Car stereo Install days and didn't even think of the rating.

I'm just getting back into R/C after being out of it for about 3 years. I may need to do this mod once i get a new rig and all the other gear I need.

Probably the old reliable 15A one, those are very common in car audio. I know I have a box full of them. I'll probably wire up my starter boxes tonight, I'm sick of cleaning the carbon buildup off the contacts.
