Default AKA EVO Wheels

Anyone notice that these are almost never in stock? I wonder what the deal is. Even the aka website shows them out of stock. Not much talk about them either or whether anyone is actually running the stiffeners.

HMMM, LHS are having problems getting them. Did you notice any difference with the stiffeners? Are you running the red foams?

They're dialed w/red foams. I only run the EVO/stiffener/red foam combo now, sometimes no stiffener. Check out the AKA thread for more info:

Huge difference with the red foam and stiffener. The track I just ran on was blown out, the stiffener let the softer foam do its thing. If I ran a harder foam without the stiffener, it was too bouncy in the bumpy sections. I think the hard foams with the stiffeners will be awesome on my home track, which is indoor, blue groove.

I am not sure of them yet. You are adding 32 grams of rotating mass to your car! That is a lot no?

The average 1/8 buggy today seems to run between 3500 and 3600 grams. 32 grams is about 1/16 of a pound. Assuming a buggy weighing 3500 grams, adding EVO wheels is about a 1% increase in weight overall (0.91%). I don't think it'll be a huge deal. You could probably add that much easily by running on a muddy track. Granted it's rotating mass, but if it makes my tires work more effectively, I can deal with a slight reduction in acceleration... most 1/8 scales have more than enough power nowadays anyway.

I bought a set to test out but still have snow here so the test won't be until spring. Gonna see if I can feel a difference and see a difference in times though.

You're right, it's not, and apparently an additional 30 some-odd grams of rotating mass was a benefit there. Lighter isn't always faster, tune accordingly.
