Newbie engine tuning question

-Hi all.. whenever I do a cold start on my engine, and then i give the throttle a quick blip right after the engine start, the engine dies. Then I usually won't be able to give the engine throttle ("blips") until the engine warms up a bit about a minute or 2 later or else it will die.

my question is, is this a normal nitro engine behavior or its a sign that something needs to be adjusted?

Thanks.

It could be related to a couple things, but most likely your idle speed is too low or your low speed needle is too rich causing too much fuel to be present at idle which loads up the crankcase and kills the engine when you blip the throttle. For the money, a heat gun from harbor freight works wonders and helps with cold starting engines. Try leaning out your low speed needle a couple hours, which will bring the idle up also. Let the engine warm up before you do any final tuning on it.

Alot of people run into this issue when they start a motor in cold conditions. When you start the engine and it has a slightly high idle/rev, just let it rev for a second with the glow ignitor still attached. This will allow the engine to produce heat a little quicker. I do not reccommend you revving the engine as soon as you fire it up.

I personally, put the glow ignitor on and what roughly 15seconds before I fire the engine, when the engine fires, usually right away, the engine will rev for a minute or two then by that point the motor has attained some heat. Do not rev the engine in this period, until the motor drops back down to a steady idle. Revving at this point will only cause premature wear and tear.

Also everything I just said is when I forget my heat gun at home. Hope this helps.

the best thing you can do is use a heat gun or a engine heater always before you start your motor..your motor will last alot longer and you wont have the cold start issues,,heat gun $25..motor $200
