Tire traction compound
Does buggy grip and other tire compounds really work to soften up the rubber? What do you find works best?

Yes they do,
There are a few different ones out now. Heard that the Sticky Kicks stuff is supposed to be good too. I usually use the Buggy Grip, as I have a lot of it. Works well on the steering wheel foam on your radio too. Heard of some racers using simple green, WD-40, and some others that I am not thinking of right now. Some have even gone as far as using some motor spray and lighting their tires on fire (not reccomended) to soften them up.

Diesel in a spray bottle works well!
Luckily M4 and super soft compounds have eliminated the need for this!

yeah it gets to be a bit much sometimes,
Doing up 15 sets at a time isn't the most fun I've had, but you do what you have to do sometimes. I know racers that if they even smell that stuff, they want to puke. Is actually comical with the look on their faces as they run away. Must be too much on road racing. Paragon anyone?

yes and deteriorates the carcus over time, but works on many surfaces for improved performance.

Although I plan to use the super soft, I have a box full of soft tires that I am trying to go through. I just want to get them a little softer since everyone I am racing with are using the SS and the difference in traction is visible in how well the car holds the line.
I have heard some people using brake cleaner as well. Does anyone have first hand experience with that? Also, how do you apply the diesel - spray it on and let it dry off, scrub it, wipe it off? Can you do it the night before the race or does it have to be right before you use them?

mix a 5 oz mix of:
3oz kerosene
1oz pb blaster
1oz buggy grip(just to tame the smell a bit)
spray on and let dry, repeat this 2-3 times and don't do it again.
absolutely AMAZING!
