Never on a external pinion or spur, white lithium is my choice on a pinion and ring gear inside a diff. Just a dab, the less the better.

I use Finish Line teflon grease for bicycles. It's a little lighter than automotive stuff and I know it's ok for the plastics and seals we use in RC because they are similar to what's in bicycle suspension.

Here is a link to a thread where I asked the same question a while back. Has a lot of good info in it. Most people seem to be using Mobil 1.

Mobil 1 is great but the best stuff iv seen is a green fully synthetic greese at autozone. I have since put it in more convenient tubes but if you go there you will see what I mean. I just forgot the name of it.

I use lithium car quest brand grease. Never had a issue and last forever. A big tube is cheap and I think mine is about 3 years old and still have 3/4 lol.

For most applications I use Liqui Moly LM47 grease which also contains MoSē.
It's a grease formulated for high pressure environments and long term use.

So far, I'm really happy with the LM47 BUT I'm tempted to try Maxima WaterProof Grease. Anyone who can share his experiences with that stuff?
