My Collection.
Yep i Ran my Optima MID 2 yrs ago at a big vintage meet at Ryde.
I gave it to my mate 15yrs ago and manage to get it back as it was on a shelf full of cob webs. Gave it a full rebuild stuck a 10x2 in it . Won it's first race over 20yrs later. Came 2nd in Mod at the state titles back in 87.. Almost bought tears to my eyes.
I stopped racing and just played with vintage cars and now have almost 40 runners all equipped with brushed and brushless motor/speedies . servos and 2.4g rx.
With all the Re Realise that Tamiya are doing buying new vintage cars has never been better not too metion the Aussie $$$$$.
I have them all on display on shelf's . Gives me allot of pleasure.
Im starting racing again next yr as i miss it too much but will continue playing with vintage. Can't wait till the Avanti comes out.

I am a tragic too!
There are many of us around the globe.
Check out tamiyaclub.com - probably the largest vintage based website in the world. There are also many others out there too.
Personally, I have been racing since 1977 and just love the hobby.
I have a website as well, (DESPERATELY in need of an update!), and there are many websites to help feed your new found addiction as well.
All happy tragics!!
Cheers

I was just a kid and had no money back then, my buddy (a neighbor) bought me a small glass container of Tamiya paint as my birthday present. I painted it with a paint brush from my school art class...
I manage to strip most of the gears including the steel pinion mounted on the stock 540 motor...

It's Avante! And "Being nuts is NEAT!"
I had a copy of RCCA (God! I miss Chris Chainelle... RIP Chris...) with Avante on the front cover! Beautiful car, cutting edge design back then!
