I went opening day and ya the track is fast fun and smooth. More 1/10 then 1/8 but it works. I did pretty well last weekend 3rd in truggy and 6th in buggy (I had 2 flameouts in the buggy ). Lap times are in the 19-22's. When you coming out? The next nitro race is the 26th.

Hi everyone,

I don't have good memories connected to Gel Cell in my starter box (i simply can't fire up my engine even with a freshly charged Gel Cell) so i'm thinking about buying a 4S LiPo instead. But i don't have any experience with LiPo's. I know that the voltage slowly decreases and then there is a moment when a big voltage drop occurs (but how low is the voltage then? Does it make the engine start impossible?). I've also heard that it's impossible to forsee this voltage drop - is that true?

What do you use to prevent LiPo from over-discharging? I've found a simple monitor but can i belive it (is it accurate)? I don't want to see my starter box on fire.

I have This OFNA Starter Box. Do i need to replace the wiring or it will be fine with the 14.8V?

Thanks in advance,

Donat

I need your advice. I have little time for the decision (buy LiPo or not).

I would rewire it with some Deans 12ga wet noodle wires. Heres what my ofna truggy box looks like after i rewired it. I would imagine the motor should handle the lipo, but have no experience with the box you have.

And yes that low voltage buzzer will work just fine. Make sure you have a good lipo charger also.

Could you please post a link to the wires recommended for LiPo? Also, do you change the connectors only or connectors + wires?

There is an information on the motor: "14,8V" so i bet it will handle LiPo.

What happens when the voltage monitor turns on? Am i still able to fire up my car then? Because thats the only thing i'm afraid of.

Yes, I will probably buy there. Their prices are really good. Do you know where is located their german shop? I live in Poland so it would be much easier to purchase from there. I can't find such an information on their website. Is it possible to pick up the order directly from their shop or it has to be sent?

To convert your starter box to LiPo you just need to change the battery plug for a better one like the Deans and that's it.

here's a link http://www.myrcbox.com/?p=3765

you dont have to do all that just buy or make an adapter. I kept all the stock wiring in mine and just made a tamiya to turnigy lipo plug. I run a 4s 5000mah turningy lipo. Nothing irritates me more than shabby wiring or rewiring.

That article explains a lot! Thanks!

Do you take your battery out of the starter box and put it in a protection bag every time you charge it?

The best way is to just leave it in the box and just keep a watch on it while it's charging. Much easier that way.

No i just open the lid and charge the battery while it sits in the starter box.

This is the path I took to starter box happiness.

I grew tired of burnt up contacts and switches.

Might be overkill, but that's the way I like it.

Battery is a Turnigy 4S 2200.
