Default Hyper 7 worth racing??

Hi its my first post so you can say im new to this

I bought a ho bao hyper 7 about 2 years ago and stuffed around with it for about 3 weeks and put it in the shed, then a couple days ago i pulled it out wanting to sell it and the smell of the fule got me excited again

Now the question is can i race this car i know i have to change the motor to a .21 but is it worth trying to race it or should i buy another one?? Dont forget im only a beginner.

You'll get a lot of answers.. I would say keep it.. upgrade the motor, since your just starting I would get a less expensive good club racing motor. Werks, cheaper Novarossi's, Picco's to name a few.. and I would change the steering servo and go give it a shot, it will give you a start and a cheap one at that..

the hyper 7 can still get you around the track. And if you can learn to drive it consistantly, when/if you decide to upgrade you'll be amazed how much you've improved with a more capable car.

same as above... if you can drive your hyper7 around the track without crashing, you'll end up in front of 90% of the people you will compete against at the club level, even if your fastest laps are a tad slower... when you're racing sportsman, it's all about keeping it on all fours, really

Have fun!

Keep the 7 its just fine! but if you decide on getting rid of it PM me i might make an offer.

Werks has some really good .21 for cheap. the B5 and B6. I have the B5 I never have tried the B6 but Ive never had an issue with werks so I am sure it is just as good. Drop one of those in and you will love that car.

Nothing wrong with the hyper 7 for beginners. I myself strted on one. I came across a deal on a hyper 9 that was too good to pass up so i have since replace the trusty hyper 7. Just use the 7 till it totally dies (those things are tanks so this will take a while) or till you can save up the money /come across a good deal to get another car.

I had one back in the day. It is a tank and won't handle as good as the current buggy's. Run the hell out of it and try different set ups. Try to learn what different adjustments do.

You probably don't need a new motor for club racing. Most club's allow RTR engines.

I started with a used OFNA 9.5 buggy 5 years ago when I first got into nitro. It was powered with the entry level OS RG .21 with a pull start. That thing was plenty fast for me and handled awesome. I ended coming in 3rd in the points standings that season. If you can keep it wheel side down and get around the track you'll be fine.

I'm in the same boat as you now. I packed everything away after that 2005 season and just pulled it all out again the other day to get it running again. It's hard to stray away from the hobby for long.

I'd say run it until you break it. You probably won't get much for it and the experience will help you going forward. That is unless you have boat loads of money sitting around and you can't stand not having the latest and greatest

You'll have to reset your carb and brake linkage to make sure nothing is bound up or over stretching... the stock throttle servo should do you just fine as well.

Just in case you don't know, a good rule of thumb for installing your air filter is to be able to lift the entire car by it... I toasted my VG after half a tank for 1 stupid error.

Replace your clutchbell bearings while you're in there. You might want to look at getting an aluminum clutch shoe kit from Ofna/Jammin or Answer R/C. If your hyper is like my PCR rtr, it came with a crap clutch setup.

Good luck!
