Random Teeth On Spur Gear Missing???

I have 2 random teeth on my spur gear missing. Anyone know any reasons why? I already eliminated gear mesh because it wouldn't cause 1 tooth to snap off. It would grind down the spur/clutch bell.

Please enlighten me! Thanks!

It could be a million different things. The one that would be on top of my list is a rock. I wouldnt worry about it, replace it and move on

Do I even need to replace it? It runs fine without the 2 missing teeth. They're not missing consecutively, by the way.

Call me ignorant. But why?

smokinu 10-26-2010 06:00 PM

replace it.

because its missing teeth..

quixoticboi 10-26-2010 06:02 PM

What will happen if I continue to use it?

smokinu 10-26-2010 06:08 PM

more teeth will become missing:lol:

it might take out the clutch bell and spur if you let it get that far..

quixoticboi 10-26-2010 06:10 PM

I still don't understand why or how this would happen.

I guess this is why I want to know what the problem is. If the problem was indeed a little rock getting caught in there, then I will continue to run the spur. If not, well, let me know what you think! :)

do what you want to do, obviosly your to ignorant to see the point of missing teeth.

now squeal like a pig...

quixoticboi 10-26-2010 06:56 PM

Hmm...

So run with a new spur because...

Still no explanation. I may be ignorant, but until there's some validity to the statement "cause you should", I won't...

Your spur is missing teeth most likely from a slipper that is too tight and/or from a hard landing under throttle. Replace it or you will damage your tranny.

the spur gear if u flip ur car over is open to rocks and crap a little rock got wedged in and caused a tooth to break most likley it happens all the time if u are running on a rocky surface,if u wnt to run it run it but having a gap will leave a space between teeth and will be easy for the teeth closes to it to be a weak point thus causing another tooth to break and lead to further problems, imo
just replace it thus eliminating further problems

Finally some useful responses. Thank you!

Now I will replace it. (I'm not that ignorant, just need a reason to do things)
