.21 will be the only race legal engine. You can choose anything from $100-$500 but if you are new to nitro I would suggest you start with a cheep engine until you learn how to tune and maintain it properly. Stick to $200 or less. Some great choices for you in that range would be:

Novarossi N21BF
Hyper .21 8 port
Force JL .21
Alpha orange head
go, 5 or 7 port

i would, remmend a rb hobby 9 (s5) .21 but i think a lot of places stop selling them but there a good engine for $209 i still have my its not to hard to tune it is a sport engine but its good for club racing i run one on my truggy i just need to get a diffrent pipe.

i have the nova bf .21bf from last year its a good engine pretty torquey easyier to tune than my s5.

It wont really matter right now. You will not have anymore success with any one engine over another, nor will you be a better or faster racer because of it. If you put the right clutch set-up and the right tires on your buggy and drive within your means you will be fine, but if it does matter to you you want to look at HP, practical RPM's and max RPM's

The EB mods race prep motors are great because the are pretty much broken in and ready just some slight tuning and race, they hold a tune great and have great power when used with the Dynamite 086 pipe that's only 50 bucks.

keep yours eyes open here in the for sale section, most of the people here are honest, and you could find a great motor within your price range. also if you get a new mill, follow the proper break in methods so you get the most out of your investment

There are many $200 buck engines on the market that will get the job done B5, P5 Alpha, Some of the Vspec's are around $200 now or a Nova BF limited will be more than enough.

Here are some links to help you>

A great engine that is real affordable is the Nova N21R-BF, $145 new and they will hang with allot spendier engine.

If you want to spend a little more, the Green Head Alpha is a great engine too.

+1 for a new Nitro Racer.. Easy to, and runs great.. It won't be the fastest motor, on the track, but rarely does the fastest motor win the race, smooth driving does..
