Default Picco .26 in a revo with starter box, can I keep the back plate.

Here's the deal. I'm tired of the Roto Start system on my Revo. Not so much for the roto start itself but the fact that the starter shaft in the engine always wear out quick (in about a gallon or two) causing the OWB to slip.
Replacing it is expensive (living in Europe).
So now I have a deal on a revo starterbox but I wonder if i NEED to replace the backplate with a solid one or if I can keep both the starter shaft and the backplate and ONLY remove the OWB from the shaft.

I mean, it's spinning now when I have the OWB on, why wouldn't it work with the OWB off?
Ohh I know I can get a solid back plate but I want to save money here....

Is there anything I'm missing?

Why even remove the OWB? It'll just be along for the ride, like it is now.

But, yes, you can remove the OWB to no ill effect...just remove the rotostart gear it sits in as it locates the gear in the backplate.
