Default Temp gun?

I have used many different brands of temp guns and all of them don't show the same readings or accuracy.

What brand or model do you use? How accurate is it?

I dont own one but pitting for a few guys every one has one that fits there budget. I am gonna be ordering an exergen. I have used it and fell that it is much more accurate as i have used a cheaper one of some ones and he told me to add 15 degrees lol. Save the cash get the exergen.

I use the losi temp tuner. It is accurate enough so i can check to be sure i am not frying my engine and its got the tuning driver on the other end to richen it fast if i am.

But go by feel and sound of the engine and use it so you can sleep easy at night knowing you didnt do a full 20 min main at 300*.

I have had 2 of these, they start out good but after a season they go to crap. My last one was 60 deg over.

also had 2 odonnell's.... and they went to crap after a season as previously stated. I dont even own a temp gun any longer, just use the sound and feel method now. If I were to buy one again though, it would only be an exergen. Costs more initially, but lasts forever, and far more acurate.

My fav chepo isthe pe1 they work well if you keep them clean. I have 2 of them and they are always within 10 degrees. But my all time fav is the mighty exorgen. I fought buying one for a long while but nothing beats it. Simple and acurate as it can be.

I use a Pro Exotics PE-3. Wish they still made those. Very good gun. The Exergen is king, but at $250+ IMO is a bit much. I rarely use a temp gun anyway.

I'll not pay 250$ for a temp no matter how accurate it is! LOL

I only use temp gun once and a while, only to check if temp is not too high or low. I don't tune my engine with a temp gun.

I once made the mistake of worrying about temps. Kept seeing higher temps than I hear about and richened up the needles and the thing ran like crap and could not get it back until I let it cool and started over again. Then I ignored temps and got the engine to scream and still a very healthy stream of smoke coming from the tuned pipe. After that I turn my engine by sound, feel (performance), and smoke (want some smoke but not thick and no smoke from the glow plug area). If I keep that then I'm calling it good. I will occasionally check temps to see that I'm not running ridiculously high by accident. I know many who do not check temps at all except for break in.

I've tuned two engines today, no temp gun, just feel, smoke and performance. After I've looked at the temp just to make sure the engines were not running hyper hot.

But let,s go back to the original subject... What is the more accurate "budget" temp gun?

The most accurate budget temp gun is the PE-1 and the duratrax ...
Guys all the temps are manufactured by the same china guy

I use some random temp gun with the laser on the end. Dunno what it's called. Got it from Harbor Freight for like $10 one day with a coupon. It gets me a ballpark number.
