Default Idle speeds up even though I am turning it to go slower?

Any idea why when I turn the idle screw on my Losi 454, the idle goes faster instead of slower even though I am turning it in the right direction?

You are running it too lean.

Screwing it clockwise will raise the idle. Counter will lower it. Set your gap to about .5mm to .7mm. Then leave it alone. If it is still too high your low end is lean. It should idle alittle high after the motor is cleared out for about 8 seconds or so then drop to a low idle and load up again.

This is what Ron from Werks Engine explain to us Werks engine users to do if tune if off. It might work for you. If you want give it a try.

a) Set idle gap with idle stop screw to roughly .5mm.

b) Set HS and LS to flush with the end of the housings.

c) Fire up engine and blip throttle to warm up then let come back to idle. Adjust LS needle to get smooth steady idle. Leaner = higher idle, richer = lower idle. Adjust this until you get a smooth, steady idle. Do not touch the idle stop screw only use the LS needle!

d) Toss the car on the track and adjust the HS needle to get the top end performance that you want/need.

e) Finally pull the car in and adjust the LS needle one final time (probably richen it) to bring the idle speed back down and you are done.

That's all that you should have to do and you should be done!

that sounds good but , i think all you need to do is richen the low end 1/4
cw. and than do the pinch test

or it could be a broken spring or the carb could be stuck maybe.

Another possibility, if the clutches are worn or not installed correctly they will do that and when u mess with the idle it will also cause the clutches to ingage in hight rev's, might be somthing to check out.
