Default Starter box

I just had my engine pinched at lhs now the thing keeps locking up and putting a grove in my bump box wheel. Any ideas on how to keep this from happening?

Pre-heat and turn it to BDC, piston down.

what engine and starter box you have?

and yes pre-heat engine, that is extremely important with breaking in an engine.

Yeah i had this problem too when i first got my engine. My piston locked up when it was at TDC. What i did to unlock it was take a flathead screwdriver and stick it into one of the flywheels teeth and move it until the piston got to BDC. No heating required. It may ruin the warranty but it fixed it. My engine starts fine now whether its at TDC or BDC.

Talking Starter Box

I agree with pre-heating the engine.

I would not bang on the flywheel as it might put flat spots on the connecting rod bushing. Maybe lite taps, but not a big one.

Also, you can try putting a small drop of oil around the top edge of the piston so when it goes up, there is something for the piston to ride on and not just metal on metal.

Also, I have an ofna starterbox. Chrome top with the single large motor.

That thing (with a good battery) seems to turn over the most stubborn

new/tight pinched engines.

I have a couple of new RD Logics which I have not tried yet.

Yellow top. (IF anyone can comment on them, please feel free.)

Just a suggestion but always preheat your mill until lat least you've ran 1 gallon of fuel threw it. without preheating it will wear faster and not last as long...

well i did heat it up a coupple of times and tried to start it whyle it was still in locked position and it still wore into the starter wheel.. so i just resorted to knocking it loose and it worked
