Unhappy Fried Mugen Starterbox

So I recently purchased a "lightly used" Mugen BII 1/8 offroad box. The very first time I pluged in my Protek 4S lipo starter box battery the twin motors began to smoke . Now the box will not even crank over. I am assuming that the motors got fried.

The motors are rated to handle 14.8v so I know the battery was not too much. Anyways, I am not having any luck finding replacement motors for this box. Does anyone have an idea if another manufacturer's motors will work (OFNA 750's maybe) or where in the world I can find the Mugen motors.

I have looked all over the net and even e-mailed Mugen directly. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I just got this problem and everyone seems to use traxxas E-max motors. just got mine via the fleabay, they are 540 sized so they should fit. I guess you might have to trim the output shafts a little.

If using a 4s pack, make sure you wire the motors in series (which is the way it comes stock). If the guy you got it from wired them in parallel for use with one 2s pack, there is your explanation for the burning.

Got home and checked to see how they were wired. One red wire connecting both motors, 1 and 2. One black wire coming from the deans plug going straight to the starter switch and a red wire from motor 1 (motor closest to the switch) going to the switch. A red wire from a motor 2 connects to the other end of the deans plug. This is series right?

The motors burnt up like a match after just a few seconds of being connected to the battery. Wierd....

I guess I will have to by a couple of motors.

That sounds like series which is what you want for 4s. Tough luck, I've had my box since 99 still on the original motors.

I fried the first set of motors of my Mugen box when I was trying to start a brand new RB engine. Those little angry b4st4rds come with a heavy pinch!
I replaced them with two standard 550 size motors from my lhs. So far everything is working fine for two seasons now - meanwhile running two 2s lipo packs. Motors are wired like they came from the Mugen factory btw.

I have broken in 4 different motors on my box without any problems. I am running on a 4 cell also. But I will put the offer out there that if you can't find them anywhere else and would like to running the Mugen motors...I am stationed here in Japan and can drive down to the store and purchase them. Let me know.

I appreciate the offer! Let me check with my LHS today and if I have no luck I just might take you up.

Thanks!

My Mugen starter box has broke-in multiple of RB, Nova Rossi and OS and never given me a problem. It's on a lipo now with the original wheel/motors and all. Couldn't be happier. Feel for the guys that have had problems. Mine is at least 8 yrs old.
