The whole point of the mod is so that the air pressure behind the bladder can escape. This air pressure is what would usually support the bladder on a standard shock. Problem with this is with changing temperatures air expands and contracts. What this means is throughout a race when the shock heats up the rebound and ride height will change. This mod allows the air to vent out removing that variable. The foam compensator is then needed to provide the support of the bladder that was removed by venting the air.

So in short, I would say, no you can't do this mod without drilling the hole.

well i did drill the hole in the losi i ran it with. But the mugen i didn't the real annoying thing that some may be disrupted bye is that the hole tends to ingest dirt in the hole and the bladder suffers no big deal just means more maintenance i really didn't have any dramas either way

the Pics explain drilling the hole in the wrong place....for O-ring's that may be where you want it, But the New Euro caps w/foam you want the Hole Directly in the middle.(IF your drilling out Non Euro caps that is)
