hey guys, for some odd reason my rear diff are making a weird noise only when i brake. i originally thought it was my brake but then i started to relize that it wasn't. i took apart my rear diff, its seem like everything is good but its making that weird cracking noise every time i brake. please help!!!

also i have losi 8ight 2.0 race roller

are you sure its your rear diff? most of the time when its doing that, its something with your breaks and it sounds like your rear diff but its not.

i know for a fact that its not my brake. i thought it was in the beginning but it isn't

Since your new to the 8ight 2.0 I would recommend you go to your local track and speak with the fast losi guys. They can help you with any problem you have and give tips to prevent any further issues. It is hard to diagnose where a clicking noise is coming from over the PC.

Could be incorrect diff shimming causing the mesh of the ring and pinion gear to be too loose, which in turn can cause the ring and pinion gear to slip when braking = clicking noise.

Take off the rear diff case and to check the shimming hold the diff against the inside diff case and check for play between the ring and bevel gears. There should not be any play. If there is you must put a shim behind the bearing on the ring gear side so it pushes the bevel gear against the ring gear. The shims you need are large and very thin. The inside diameter is just big enough to fit over the outdrive cup but only as large as the outside diameter of the bearing. Put those behind the bearing till there is no play but not so many as to where it binds the gears up.

Before you go pulling everything apart add more rear break by twisting the metal knobs on your break linkage.

Add more rear break. Turn your car and radio on hold the break down and only have the rear tires on the ground. Push down and roll the rear tires. If the sound is still there add even more rear break.

Just try it. I have had the same problem and I thought it was the diff it wasnt. It was just the rear breaks on the verge of not engaging correctly.

i know for a fact the noise is not coming from my brakes because what i did is i took the rear off from the car and got a towel and held the drive shaft, got both tires drag them on the floor and it was still making that cracking sound.

Just try it. The sound wasnt coming from breaks it was coming from the diff.

It is the rear diff, if it has done it alot replace the ring and pinion gear and the bulkhead
