Default Need help with engine problem and fast...

This is a problem encountered on 3 different engines on three different people up to now and we don't know what's causing it.
We are not noobs on tuning so we know the "basics".
Engine runs fine with the glow starter on but dies when removed and give it a full throttle.
If it's a blip style full throttle it will die while going to idle.
If it's a WOT to clear the engine it dies before reaching full rpm by dropping rpm and dying.

We all run RB 30% buggy fuel.
Engines are 2x RB WS9 and one Reedy 121VR.
We tried tuning it...no success.
Tried different plugs...nothing.
Tried other engines on the same car and they work...so it's not the fuel tank, clutch or pipe.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check to make sure it's not leaking and check the carb boot. Then set it back to stock settings and re tune it like it was new. Does it have good compression? How many gallons on it?

Yes it's the same batch.
But others seem to be doing fine...at least only flaming out on the track and not on the starter box!!!!

No leaking or so ever.
Both WS9 have around 4-5 gallons.
The Reedy only has ~3.
We did try the stock setting but nothing seems to fix this.
And it happened so suddenly on all 3 engines that we don't know what to do.

We tried 45% RB fuel the same day on one of the engines and we still had the same problem.

Is it three seperate engines in three different cars? Or three different engines in the same car? Maybe the airfilter was used on all three and it leaks dirt by. Need to think of what may be common between all three engines.

Does a air leak usually make your engine run lean? i am asking because i have been having the same problem (sort of). Both my motors run fine at wot and mid but for some reason they won't idle at all really. It will cut out in about 5 seconds once the idle drops. It is a serious bog that sounds like it should be spitting fuel out the tail pipe like a fire hose. Have changed P/S/R, bearings, fule tanks, even the thermal sleeve. It's not the linkage, don't know what it is. I will say it's times like this that make me rreeaaalllyyyy want to go electric or just quit.

Got off topic, so if my engine is boging down like it is too rich, would an air leak cause that? Doesn't a air leak cause the idle to be erratic and go up and run hot temps? Just trying to eliminate the air leak theory. I have leaned it wwaaayyy out as well and that does not help at all. Got a little better when i turned the midrange screw a half turn in, but the power band was crap and ran like poo. Not the glo plug. Maybe it's my cheap glo ignitor. Although i have changed batteries often.

Glow ignitor won't have a thing to do with they way the engine idles. Don't you have another thread on this same topic?

Anyway, as suggested in the other thread, lean her out some more ... high summer temps with high humidity = a rich engine. I had to lean both my Truggy and Buggy quite a bit with the temps soaring they way they are.

Engines are on different cars.
On one car we found that the lid that closes the tank was weak and at WOT and high pressure it poped the lid open a bit.

We are not noobs on tuning so we know the "basics".
Engine runs fine with the glow starter on but dies when removed and give it a full throttle.
If it's a blip style full throttle it will die while going to idle.

Tried other engines on the same car and they work...so it's not the fuel tank, clutch or pipe.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try running a super hot glow plug. I had the same problem and found that I was running too cold of a plug. OS or O'Donnell plugs are the best in my opinion.

Possibly a broken clutch spring or hung clutch shoe? Also check your clutch bearings. One could be seized. Try Boca clutch bearings. They are pretty efficient.
