Default Do shock springs wear out?

How often do you replace your shock springs. I'm running losi black on front and gray on back on 8ight t 2.0. The rears sure do seem to be shorter than they used to be.

Yes they do wear out. Quicker than you would think. I have noticed the truggy rears softening up pretty quickly. I just change them often and have no issues. Actually reminds me I should probably order a new set for my truck.

Really? It would be cool to see some of the magazines put this theory to the test. Springs eventually fatigue, but I don't know if they do "every few months".

Trust me they do! No magazine needed. Run a set of springs for a couple of months and compare them to a new set. The used springs will be significantly softer and even possibly shorter. Or even better, mount up a set of springs, set your ride height, and measure the preload you need to get your ride height. Run them for a year and set your ride height again. Now measure the preload needed again. Guaranteed it will be significantly more preload to get your ride height.

interesting, i was wondering this myself. I have never changed my springs since i've had my buggy.

however, after each race day, I take the springs off the shocks. I'm sure this has prolonged the life of them, but do plan on getting new ones.

Default Chill out

I noticed the silver springs on my xray were softer so I just went to the grey blue springs. After a couple races they broke in and work perfectly. I think they need to break in...Not be replaced all the time....

If that's the case, shame on the manufacturers for making crap-quality springs. They charge $4/pair and they last a few runs? What kind of sh!t is that?

I mean they last more than a few runs. Mine last a couple months. I race a lot though, so they may last longer for some. Springs are under a pretty good deal of stress as we throw our vehicles around tracks that by all appearances should be 1/2 the size they are. Honestly $4/6 per pair every couple months is nothing in this sport. If that was the extent of maintenance costs, I would be ecstatic.

You would also be surprised how different the two springs are in the same pack. Koby next time your at McCollough's ask Doug or Shawn what they use to do with their 1/10th scale springs.....haha get ready for story time
