ok, i know theres the electric starters on monster trucks and what not. but do any 1/8 truggy/buggys come rtr with the electric start instead of the pull start?

Nearly all buggys and truggys are started with a starter box. It makes starting alot easier than pulling a recoil starter until your arm falls off. If you get a buggy or truggy, do yourself a favor and get a good starter box, one with dual 775 motors and adjustable pins.

It all comes down to performance. A backplate for a starter adds two things, Weight and Rotational Mass. Both rob performance differently.

Weight is pretty obvious but rotational mass is a little different but it basically slows the engine down because it has to spin the backplate...

Another thing that can be a real PITA with pull start and electric start systems is one way bearings. They either seize up or they start slipping on the motor shaft.

To answer the original question, I don't know any rtr buggy or truggy that comes with electric start system. Not that I'm an expert on rtr kits though.

The Losi 8ight Buggy and 8ightT Truggy RTR sets come with a starter box ready to go. No setup of the box required. they also have the 10-T and Speed NT 1/10 scale sets that are RTR with a remote starting system that uses the radio to remotely start the engine.

I have used it all. From Traxxas Easy-start system to pull start and then roto start and now a starter box.
I have to say the EZ-start is the worst. Too much items to break or wear out.
It's a constant maintenance issue. When it works it's the easiest way to start an engine for sure, WHEN it works.
Then I tried the pull start but my arm got angry with me....
I have now gone to roto start system on my Revo bigblock and thats pretty much the best way to go.
You still have to use a OneWayBearing (OWB) and those are always the weak point. The arm is happy again and the truck is light!

I also have a Losi truggy 2.0 that came with the starter box. This is just a dream! It is so so so simple to use and you don't have those nasty OWB/backplate/starter shaft/leak things to worry about.

I'm not sure what that is, but it's the only one I've ever seen that has it.
Really though a bump box, is the only way to go. The bearings go out way to easy on the roto starts.

I agree use a bump box. If you use an electric start, it adds a lot of weight which isn't the best if you wanna race it.

yea i actually looked at that one. i guess a starter box is the best way to go then. im not going to be racing competively. just driving around the yard and street and dirt track. thanks for all your inputs ^^^^^

Electric starters usually have a weak motor which burns out fairly quickly. Even if it doesn't burn out you gotta figure thats quite a bit of extra weight to have on the rig. I'd rather go recoil than electric start, and roto start over recoil, but nothing beats a good high torque starter box.

as much as i agree with you all about starter box, i must say one down side to it. some may not agree but i have found that alot of people go through front engine bearings faster using a starter box, because they push down hard on the engine which in then puts strain on the bearing,

but its actuly faster to slowly push down then slam it down
