Default clutch setup on losi 8ight

hi there i went racing last night and i have now got my car dialled (just needs a few tweaks here and there) in thanks to the help of stanton. the only problem is the start of a race. my car seems to be sluggish of the line. it has to rev high and it doesn't have as quick of a start as other losi 8ights up at my track. and im pretty sure it is the clutch setup.

i am using the team losi aluminium long life clutch shoes with gold springs all round. should i get some silver clutch springs? should i have two gold and two silver? what spring setup do you recommend?

many thanks

lewis

I like to use black and green springs with all aluminum shoes. Just a personal preferance. Sounds like you are either sprung to light or shoes are worn.

the problem i have is it is sluggish of the start line. i have tuned it correctly but it needs to rev quite high before it will slowly start moving. in know it is not engaging quick enough, therefore the clutch is sprung to heavy. but what springs should i try?

also has anyone got a spring guide (tells thickness and angle of springs)?

many thanks

lewis

try going to the stock 2.0 setup
2 composite shoes (LOSA9107) with green springs (LOSA9113)
2 aluminium shoes (LOSA9108) with gold springs (LOSA9114)

this will engage earlier than your current setup and be pretty smooth

It sounds like either the clutch is worn and needs new shoes or the springs are too stif. Take the measurement across the clutch and if it's 23.4 mm or less you need new clutch shoes. But with the springs. Try 2 green and 2 gold. 4 gold will wear out the shows faster. Actually run 2 blk and 2 green that's where I like it at. My car felt too much lie a rubber band when it would take off with green and gold. Try the springs but I the shoes are shot it doesn't matter what you do the problem will still be there.

thanks i think the springs are just to stiff, i will look at my clutch and see what the shoes are like. so frank you recommend black and green? i will try it but it is just trial and error really.

anyone recommend a good spring setup?

many thanks

I run 2 gold, 2 green with Max-Life shoes. Seems to hit pretty good. Very controllable.

+1, same set up here, works great also make sure you dont have a lot of build up on your clutch bell, clean it well.

A lot depend. On the engine you are running too. I run black and green In the buggy because I didn't like the way the green and gold felt with a speed engine. With another engine the green and gold are perfect. But you are correct it is personal to each driver and it's all trial and error. Now the truggy is just fine with the same engine and green and gold.

thanks for all the comments i will buy all the springs so that i can try different spring setups. the only problem is having to take the engine out every time (annoying).

i will try gold and green and if i dont like it i will try black and green. it will be a slow progress.

many thanks

lewis

Just to be sure, buy new clutch shoes. How much gas was on the old shoes?

what do you mean? the engine has had about a gallon through it and them shoes have been on there since the engine was new. i was going to get two carbon shoes and some green springs and have the other two shoes the used losi long life shoes with gold springs. but is it ok to have two new carbon shoes and keep two used long life shoes?

1 gallon with gold springs, might be near the end of its racing life. Get new aluminum and carbon shoes and use them for racing.
