Default RC8T, Aluminum or Carbon shock towers

I have the RC8T RS and trying to upgrade components. I want to upgrade the shock towers to fit the new punisher body (jconcepts) without having to use the Maifield adapter. But in general, for racing what's better, the aluminum or carbon shock towers?

If you want to run the jconcepts punisher body and not use the maifield mount then you need the blue aluminum shock towers.Mainly just the rear. The front is the same as far as body mounts. If you run the bulldog body the you might be able to use your existing towers. Because the body comes with a template that marks out holes to drill to relocate the body mounts. Hope this helps.

But as far as a performance upgrade to race, aluminum or CF?

I would go with the aluminum because you have more tuning options with them. They more holes for roll center, and shock mounting.

For racing, I'd say aluminum. I've seen my friend break his CF shock tower which ended his day.
