Which receiver pack? (losi 8ight)

Whats a good receiver pack to use in the 8ight buggy? $$ plays a part here so whats something that should at least get me by? I know LiPo is a good route to go, but whats my cheapest in those going to be? <----would also need a charger.

Or, is there some good NiMh packs that hold up good? I have had ProMatch 7.4v stick packs before and they held up good, think their receiver packs would also?

I was racing today and my losi nimh receiver pack (old) gave me trouble with staying charged. So im just looking for something that will do me good on a race day.

thanks alot

I have had good luck with the trinity IB or EP nimh packs when I used them. I use a losi lipo now and it's far superior. I don't even see the trinity packs listed but j have also used the team Orion pack and it worked well too. Here's a link

Also, what chargers can be use for what packs (NiMh)??? Im looking at maybe getting the Promatch 5 cell 1600 mah pack.

for instance, could I use a Traxxas receiver charger for that Promatch pack, or the ones linked above? The traxxas charger reads 3-4 hour charge time with 1200mah. even though the charger says 1200mah, can I still charge the 1600 mah packs with it?

reason I need another charger is my Losi charger has only one charge plug, the small red one, NOT the J type. I need a charger with the J type plug

Honestly I'd say any good 1500-1600mah NiMH pack is fine.

Regardless you're going to get about 1hr or so of run time out of them.

I was running a lipo RX pack but, even though I had a Losi LVC on it, it ate my KO Propo RX. I honestly only got a few minutes more run time out of it, so it really wasn't worth it. I'll stick with NiMH especially since I got a few 1600mah packs on clearance from AMain for $7/ea. ;)

you think the traxxas Rx charger would work good?

Get yourself a good charger that can do it all. You'll be glad you did.

Here's the best bang for your buck.

The associated battery is a good battery. i have two of them and i use them for my hb d8 and they have never failed me. I can run a whole day of racing w/o recharging. That is the 3 6min heats and the 15min main. But i usally charge after the 3 heats.

hello,

i used 2 of this pack all season long with no issues,

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...-Losi-8ight-20

i never use a fast charger for any NIMH packs, i use a normal JR charger (the one that comes with any airplane TX) i charge them 12 hours before the race, i use one for the quals while the 2nd is charging and for the 45min Amain, i put the newly charged one. our Nats Final was a 60min race, still no issues.

hope this helps

cheers
ALi

These packs like to be charged at 1.0-1.5 amps. Look at the output of the traxxas charger and see what it is. Lower amp rating is ok but it will take longer. Higher will overheat the pack and nimh packs do not like heat.

Man Ali thats a monster pack that should last aaaaaaawhiiiiiiiiiile.

yes

The IB1600 packs are great. Am Main has the pro tec ones for about 20 bucks. I've never had one die on me, Dynamite makes them too, and trinity. I found one on ebay at rc mall for like 17 bucks shipped...but I do charge them before I use them of course. and like the above said, 1-1.5 amps is perfect. I charge mine at 1 amps. The faster you charge a nimh battery the more volts it puts out, but it will drain faster, makes sense right, and if during the charge it gets hot then stop charging it and let it cool off before finishing a charge, and the first charge it never hurts to repeak it once between cooling.

That pack has to weigh alot!!

I use a 1200mah lipo. I ran a 25 min main and after the race it took 330mah. So it could do a hour easy.
