Default Clutch problem or Carb setting

New to nitro and would like your input. Well i bought this used Losi Ten here two weeks ago. When it arrived, I was able to start it a few times just before one of the gears in the ROSS system went out. I ordered a complete gearbox and installed it and has been starting fine. The quesion i have is it seems to idle on a stand with the wheels spinning and right when i brake or stop the wheel from spinning, it would die. I checked the carb and the recommended gap is still there even when i apply full brake. Personally, i think the clutch is the culprit but i cant confirm. I was going to order a complete clutch but i want to check with you guys first to make sure that is the problem.

I didn't realized that nitro cars can be so troublesome. Had this car close to three weeks and still have not had a chance to have fun with it yet. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks again...

When it starts put the car on the ground, if it stalls then your clutch is engaged. Usually the fix is new clutch springs. But take the clutch apart and see what it looks like.

Default thanks afito

I think your right. When i put it on the ground, it rolls without me applying gas. And when i put my feet in front of it to stop it, it dies. Since i got this car, it has been all wrenching and no driving.

It comes from buying used stuff. It's not that someone is trying to rip you off it's more about the wear on things. When I was new to the hobby trying to get used stuff to run well was always an issue. Now with a little more knowledge and a lot more experience wrenching - keeping my vehicles running is a lot easier.

Just remember that every bit of wrenching you do now makes it easier the next time. If you have questions this forum is a great resource. Clutch maintenance and repair is fairly straight foward.
