traxxas 3.3 engine help
I just got this motor back from traxxas and its brand new. I just finished breaking it in. Im running it in a revo platinum. I'm using a dx3s with telemetry. On my final tank of break in, I was running full throttle for 2 seconds. What the traxxas breakin method says. I was getting temps of 280 on the radio! The hsn is at 4.5 turns out and the lsn is flush with the slider. I have been doing some reading, could it possibly be an air leak(as it is new), or could the lsn be too lean?

Where do you have the temp wire installed at ? If its in the wrong stop it can give you false readings. If its getting too hot and your not seeing any smoke, then richen the HSN a couple hours and test there. More than likely it too lean.

Dont get into the habbit of tuning by temps, tune for performance and check the temp, if you have good smoke and it runs good you'l be ok

The sensor is one fin up from the bottom of the cooling head. I do have smoke but its richer than stock settings which is weird. But I was driving it when it was 85 out yesterday. I'll try moving th sensor up.

No matter where you put it it will always be wrong, but it is supposed to be put around the bottom of the head. It will always be wrong because when the manufacturers tell you the engine temp should stay in the 210-270 range they check the temp from down in the head by the glow plug, not at the bottom of the head.. so either tune for performance and a nice smoke trail or get a real temp gun.

I love my Dx3r, but dx3s with telemetry sucks. Not accurate at all. seen a kid ruin his engine because he was tuning by temps and the temps were 40 different. He thought he was running @250ish but he was running over 300..... Buy a temp gun.

I have a temp gun I'll have to check it next time I run it.

I have my temp wire right under the last fin on the head, that way it is as close to the top of the cylindar as possible. With it installed there im only getting a couple degrees difference from my temp gun and my on board readings.
