Default What exactly is the "nature" of this hobby

Please chime in on this far too often used saying:

"due to the nature of this hobby...."

No need to sugarcoat things. Just say no "returns. period"

It means that when sold, you have no idea if the dumb ass buying it has any idea on how to use the said sold object.

For example, if I sold a perfectly good engine and the buyer uses it for 2 days and break it because of bad tuning, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE.

Same thing with electric. If i sell a perfectly good 2wd slash and the dummy that buys it throws a 3 cell on it and it blows up, he can not tell me it was not working correctly.

Granted, some shady sellers choose to hide behind this term and sell you bad stuff anyways.

Either way, it's a sugar coat for "no returns".

Yep. In other words the seller isn't responsible when someone does something stupid with what they are selling. Makes perfect sense to me.

It means that most of the people around you aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.

It's their way of washing their hands of the junk they sold you, but it doesn't always work out when you sell crap to someone who is setup not to get screwed. It doesn't matter how bad the product is as long as you are honest. If you are being deceitful, I'm taking my money back and you can shove your broken product you tried to screw me out of my money over. I've been on ebay ten years and have a ten year old paypal account with 1300+ verified. You can't screw me if I am not willing to let you. I've learned all the BS tricks. Try to pull one on me and I'm calling the credit card company.

Default the individuals nature

Who gets their engine warmed up by pulling the trigger full speed until the race starts. Who drives their car faster than they can drive. Then tells me, that engine is terrible, the con rod snapped, I just say oh no. Ooops. the nature of this hobby is that you have to keep on your toes and take care of your stuff.....
