Default How long did your v-spec last?

I'm at about the 3 gallon mark with my v-spec and my engine that has never flamed out during a race decided to flame out 3 times during an amain despite putting in a brand new glow plug and running great all day. The motor feels like it has lost compression to the point where it will just randomly flame out (but it will still hold a tune). It has never temped hotter than 220-230*. I know v-specs have a bit of a reputation of not lasting but how many gallons have u guys gotten out of your v-specs?????

Just really curious.....

Glow plugs can be bad out of the package, Your tune may have
been off on the bottom(toot lean). If it feels like its lost compression
I would pull the piston and sleeve and look for any scoring marks in
the piston(it might have ingested something). 3 gallon is way to early
for a V-spec to lose that much compression through normal wear.

If it is just wear and the piston walls are not scored you can send it
to Ray A Racing and have him do a light to Med/light pinch on it.
That will bring it right back for around 20.00

I have had a few v-spec and the longest one lasted around 11 gallons before having to do anything to it. The one that lasted the least had around 5 gallons on it and had to have it pinched.

Mine became a tuning nightmare right about the 3 gallon mark. Chased the tune all day and lots of flame outs. I have heard good and bad things about others V specs but my peesonal expierience was not a good one. I will say that when it ram good it was one of the best mills ever. I can now find others I am much happier with for allot less money

took it apart and there were no abnormal scoring marks of any sort. no dirt got in it either. maybe just as the day went on the tuning changed that much and it was unhappy. will throw in a different plug and try to run it again. but keep our v-spec experiences coming.

i had 3 vspecs go at the gallon mark, one had a connecting rod break, one had a hairline crack on the case under the exhaust port, put a new case in and then about 1/2 a gallon later the wrist pin clip came out, so technically two, but i call it 3. ive heard many things bad about vspecs warranty and when i sent the first vspec in, there exact words were they couldnt find any signs of misuse but this is a race engine so there isnt a warranty but for the sake of customer service we will warranty the con-rod. this didnt help much because my p/s were damaged when the rod broke but they wouldnt do anything about that

ive retired 4 nova +4, all had 10 or more gallons on them. My two current +4 have about 7-8 gallons on them, but they were hard gallons due to some fuel. and i have a mugen ninja that running stong at a gallon, it hasnt dropped its nuts yet.

If you do thinks its compression send it to Ray for a light pinch.
Enjoy it for a couple more gallons and then have it pinched again
if it starts acting up, you can keep pinching it until the crank
pin wear gets too scary then retire it.

We have had one do 25ltr before we touched it, and like others had one that had done 12ltr before i looked at it, Ours Was the rear bearing popped a new bearing kit in it and away she went for another 10ltr+. Never had one loose pinch so quick as yours tho 11.25ltr (3 gallon).

my first one lasted 3 or 4 gallons, but it was my first engine (bad choice for a first engine btw) I have a ninja on gallon 8 or so and a vspec at about 5. both show little wear. To be fair, my vspec has a coated crank

We have(had) 5 so far. 2 hit 10 plus gallons and are still running! 2 are about 3 to 4 gallons, and so far no problems. 1 was at about 9 or 10 gallons when the rod let go, i was running a dirt oval and my reciever battery dumped and the throttle stuck wfo!

Great engine!

I've got 3 vspec 1 that has 12 gallons and I retired it cause it was getting little weak but still runs the one I'm using now has 10 gallons and is still ripping it up and my third is a new in box ready to be ran. So I'm very happy with the spec .I never have to tune the motor it always holds the same tune thats mainly cause I use odonells 30 percent that fuel is the best stuff ever.

3 gallons....flame outs galore...blown plugs by the dozen, new carb, o rings, bearings didn't help. Ran like a champ before that. It was my first motor as well.
