how do I fix this?
this is on the rear of my Losi 8ight. I noticed it when I dis-assembled for cleaning. The drive cup on this one side (right side) has abnormal play in it. It moves all around but mostly up and down.
whats wrong and how do I fix it? I have never torn down a diff. what do I need to get? thanks!

That could be several things... I'll list them in the order I expect to be most likely.
1) Bearing on the differential. To fix it, replace the bearing.
2) Plastic insert that supports the bearing. See the thread about racing a RTR that came up today... it explains about a metal replacement for that. (I THINK that is the right side, but I honestly don't remember... it only has those on one side.)
3) There could be wear where the outdrive goes into the diff. Replace whatever part is worn. Note that it may require more than one part be replaced, ESPECIALLY if it was ran without diff fluid... which is possible if you have never done you diffs. It CAN leak out... especially if the o-rings are old. Running a diff dry will mess them up.

Its the bearings or a really wore down plastic holder
I would rebuild the whole thing.
New bulk head
alum bearing holders - see your other topic for part number
new bearings, I use Avid and Protec dollar bearings...
I would tear the whole rear apart.....

and add to that new o-rings and differential gasket.
And if one bearing is that bad, you should replace them all. Every bearing on the car.

They go inside the diff around the shaft of the outdrives... there is one on each end. The rubber gets dry and hard, and then the diff fluid leaks out.
Do all 3 diffs. And ask one of the Losi guys to help you with fluid selection. (I used to run 5k in all 3 diffs and liked it... it tamed the car down... but others will not agree with that selection!) Clean all the old grease out of the diffs and use good fluid. (Losi stuff is fine, but so is associated/AE, mugen, PTRC, etc...)

You should buy several of those... enough to do the car, and a couple spare sets.

p.s. Don't waste your money buying Losi's bearings. They're not that great... overpriced for what you get. Buy the $1/each bearings from Avid, Ready Rollers, etc... (you need to figure out how many you need of what size...) They're every bit as good if not better, for a lot less money.

so being that the gears are fine. this is what all I will need for a rebuild of the entire buggy:
(1) seal set
(6) 8x14x4 flanged bearings
(1) alum gearbox bearing inserts
couple more questions:
will I need outdrive cups?
you said a bulkhead, do you mean the gearbox? will I really need that?
and what fluid do I use? and im kinda confused on this, somebody said in another post that the 1.0 uses grease, not fluid. which is it and what do I need to get?

Just start removing screws and figure out how everything works.
I see these posts all of the time, and it'll take less time to figure it out on your own than to post questions and wait for answers.
