Day #2 of Qualifying
Day two of qualifying was a one-man show—Losi/GRP’s Mike Truhe was on top for both round #3 and round #4. Truhe played the spoiler, as his heat was the last race of each round. A benchmark was set by Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri several races before Truhe’s 8IGHT 2.0 hit the track. Early on in round #4, in didn’t look good for Losi’s superstar. He crashed in consecutive laps, and it looked like it was going to be a throwaway run. Fortunately for Truhe, he put his head down, told himself, “No more mistakes”, and went to work.

Day #1 of Qualifying
The first day of qualifying has concluded with two different top qualifiers. Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri was the fastest driver with his RC8 in round one. The track was extremely wet and muddy for most of the first round. Each heat of racing went faster as the slimy surface was pushed towards the perimeter of the track. Unfortunately for the drivers in the early races, they had no real chance at finishing near the top. Several cars in the first couple races actually got stuck in the mud. In the second round of qualifying XRAY’s Josh Wheeler was atop the field with his XB808. If you checked out our Worlds Preview article in the October issue of RC Car Action you knew that we had high hopes for “Wheelz”, and he is certainly delivering. On Thursday, the second day (of three) of qualifying, the track should be much faster, however, it’s starting to get really bumpy. It will be interesting to see who will be near the top with the ever-changing conditions. Check out our World’s Coverage thread in the Hot News and New Stuff forum regularly for updates. Thanks for tuning in.

Wednesday
Team Associated's Ryan Cavalieri TQs round #1 of qualifying. The track was absolutely terrible the first few heats of qualifying. It was soupy throughout with several puddles. Buggies weighed in at over 20-pounds after completing qualifying runs. As the first round of qualifying progressed the times got faster. Associated's Ryan Cavalieri lucked out and ran in the next to last race of round one (13 of 14). Some drivers complained because they ran fast in practice, which seeded qualifying. Those drivers that ran fast were up first today and their runs are basically a waste. With the track getting faster as the sun tries to peek out, the drivers in the later qualifiers will again have an advantage in round two. The race will run in the same order in round #2 as in round #1. I expect Ryan Cavalieri will be on top when day #1 of qualifying is all said and done.

Monday
Practice is underway. Today, drivers are experiment with setup (mostly tires).

Who's Fast so far:
Mike Truhe (only driver to put down 14 laps in 10 min., fast lap is 42.843)

13 Lap club:
Travis Amezcua
Ryan Maifield
Daniel Vega
Adam Drake
Greg Degani
Andrew Smolnik
Chad Bradley
Yuichi Kanai
Kyle Skidmore
Eugene Hickerson
Simon Willetts
Ty Tessman
Davide Tortorici
Miguel Matias
Ryan Lutz
Kelby Roberts
Robert Batlle

It looks like sub 43 second laps will be the pace, and I imagine this list will grow tomorrow:
Taylor James 42.517
Billy Fischer 42.811
Mike Truhe 42.843
Jerome Aigoin 42.934
Ryan Lutz 42.994

Sunday
The track looks awesome, and is reminiscent of the track at the 1/8-scale Off-road Worlds held in Sweden in 2004. That track had a huge variety of surfaces including wooden log jumps, gravel pits, hard pack, sand, etc.

Welcome to the 2008 IFMAR World Championship Coverage
Every two years the world’s top racers gather to determine who is the best driver and the true World champion. The event rotates its location and this year it is being held in the U.S. at the Farm 2 in Charlotte, NC. This large track has hosted many races, but this is the most prestigious by far and is arguably the most significant RC race of all time.

Some Facts:

1. This race takes place once every two years and changes location each time. The race rotates amoung the four different member blocks.

2. IFMAR was formed in 1979 and consists of over 40 member countries, and is divided in blocks or organization bodies. The U.S. block is ROAR.

3. The current 1/8-scale Off-road world champion is Kyosho's Mark Pavidis, and he is only the second U.S. driver to ever win this class.

I didn´t know JQ was so fast?! #16 after qual.

Default Engines at the WC

Hi.

What engine is J. Hudy running? Saw a picture on Neobuggy, where his engine had a black head. I would guess its prototype #3 of the Hudy engine... The first and second version of the Hudy engines had orange head.

And what engine is Lutz running? Haven't seen that pink head anywhere else
